Hi all,
I'm from Scotland and I have a BA honours in Film from the Screen Academy Scotland at Edinburgh Napier University. It was a very comprehensive and practical course. Most people who graduate from it decide not to do a masters as they don't believe there is much else they could get from a film course. The equipment and resources available are also of a very high standard. In my final year, I wrote and directed a graduate film with a £7,000 budget, shot on an Arri Alexa that got into some of the bigger film festivals here in Scotland.
In some ways, have done what I wanted to do at film school but I also feel my film school neglected creativity and the development of ideas. I am more interested in art house cinema than anything else and always felt a bit at odds with my tutors and course. So I would really like to do a Masters course in Europe or the UK that would cater to this a bit more whilst also providing the same high level resources and focus on practically I had during my BA.
The only film school I will definitely apply for is the obvious choice: The National Film School. Another film school I have found that seems like it would met this requirement is the Vienna Film Academy which seems to have a great focus on ideas and personal development as a filmmaker. The only problem is that proficiency in German is a requirement. I speak German to a B2 standard but I would not claim to be fully fluent.
Does anybody have any suggestions of some suitable courses for me? I am a bit lost really as I am struggling to find the right information.
