Calarats 2010

Thanks for the kind words, Lvn. USC and NYU both rejected me, and getting into Cal Arts seems to make sense with regards to the type of work I do. So I'm really not that surprised that I didn't get into either, and honestly, I expected it in a way.

What about you? Any word from programs? Any work to show?

jason, that's an impressive work, you got an eye for great composition! I always dream of filming something in wyoming. it's simply breathtaking. imagine the scenery on a red cam! I will see you around calarts! :)

hey T, i submitted something really dramatic, but i got into film and video, so don't worry if you heard they pick artsy work. just hanging in there. I'm BFA too (but kinda over aged! 24 yrs old). they cut me 2 years off the program based on my portfolio even though i had no credits to transfer. but hey, a friend submitted photographs (MFA film/ video) and got in too. so hang in there, its coming :) !! anyway you can always call and annoy them for the results hehe :)

Thanks cookie! I was always curious about what people were submitting for schools. I would love to see more work from prospective/admitted students. Your BFA? What year?

Nice videos T and Jason!

@ T - I wish I could see it with subtitles I missed some parts...

@ Jason - Its a nice video man!

Ill try to post the extract i send to calarts soon...

cookie, what was the advancement in the program based on? and how did you find out they were offering you an opportunity to skip two years? the letter?

Any of you guys still waiting, I got an email saying this among other things:
"Some of you may not have received your acceptance packages; if this is the first news of your acceptance, your letter and further information will be reaching you shortly."

When I applied to Calarts for my undergraduate in 2005, my acceptance package didn't come until early May. I shat a brick when I read the postmark on my acceptance letter was dated March 2nd. Looking back, I wish I had called the admissions office. Instead, I waited patiently for two extra months while the post office wiped their ass with my package.

And... I was accepted!! thanks god it was the only school i applied!

For those who didnt get accepted dont feel bad about it, just work more this year, make better proyects, and thats all you need. And thats the only way for you to know if you have what it takes...

Just noticed that youthquake and gnomehunter were accepted for Film Directing MFA. Did any Film & Video MFA applicants get the email notifying them of their acceptance?

It is true we are directing but the email was addressed as so:
"Congratulations on being invited to join the CalArts School of Film/Video MFA community!"

I'm sure they aren't quite finished yet though, so don't give up hope.

Best of luck!

Its because I feel strengh in art with film. I like creating experimental things.

You should consider UCSD. The class selection is much larger and you can do other types of "film," and art.

And... rejected.

Batting 0/2 right now, not looking good with the whole "no interview" think from Columbia. Chapman just sent out this week, I'll wait a while on that.

Grats to everyone that got in. CalArts was definitely my first choice and I envy ya'll.

i emailed someone in the admissions office about whether all the seats are taken or whether I can apply now. She wanted me to send in my application. I will be applying for the directors emphasis
