Deadline is coming up January 4th, 2021. Who's applying? Good luck!

California Institute of the Arts (CalArts)

The Program in Film and Video is designed for students who use film and video as media for personal expression and exploration—those artists for whom independent film and video is a calling and not simply a mode of production. In the workshop environment cultivated by the program, each student...

I had my interview with CalArts yesterday! I'm very sure I made a good impression of them except for this one part where I found it a little rude? One of the questions I asked was "What's the ratio percentage between in class lecture based learning versus physical filmmaking etc." because I know schools have their own way of doing things and they both eyerolled me lmao and one said "I think we just both eyerolled" before responding to my question...I mean other then that, they liked me but that was just kinda weird considering my question was pretty valid to ask lol

Like at least eyeroll me after my interview? LMAO Idk not right in my face then not explain why it was "eyerolling" material

I also had my interview yesterday for the Film directing MFA. It was very conversational. They had really gone deep in my application material; they asked me about a concept that was repeated throughout my submitted works.
wish you all the best!

I had my interview on Monday. It was good, I think. They were nice and asked me mostly about my background and why calarts. I think it was a little short, though, around 15 minutes. I asked only about the program and they asked me about the student films that I have seen. Good luck, guys!

Is that possible to be admitted without an interview by Calarts?

Thanks for your info! D u happen to know whether they will accept student without an interview?
I really don't know...I would guess they wouldn't because their process is based on a whole week of interviews and visiting classes; but I am really not sure at all about it. Sorry for not being able to help you more. :(

Thanks for your reply. My friend and I applied but none of us received anything. We applied film directing major

Is that mean I can forget about this school because I haven't received an interview until now? sad
