Odds of still hearing from NYU grad film and AFI directing

I know we’re all in the same position and trying to piece together whatever information we can, but I’m hoping to sanity-check timelines.

If I haven’t received an interview notification yet from AFI Directing (MFA) or NYU Grad Film (MFA), is it reasonable to assume it’s unlikely at this point?

Based on last year’s posts here, it looks like most interview invites (at least the ones logged on this forum) went out in late January or early February. Now that we’re approaching the end of February, I’m wondering whether silence typically means rejection - or if there are still documented cases of later interview notifications.

I know forum data is incomplete and self-reported, but I’m trying to calibrate expectations rather than speculate. Any insight from past cycles would be helpful.

AFI and NYU are the only schools I haven’t heard from, and they’re my top choices. I’m trying to stay focused on and excited about the interviews I’ve received elsewhere, but the uncertainty around these two is making it difficult to fully shift gears.

As far as AFI, I’m in a similar boat. I applied to their Directing program and Screenwriting program. Interviewed for Screenwriting and have been waiting to hopefully hear from Directing but nada. At this point I’m just taking it as I didn’t spark interest from the Directing program this year and letting it go.

Hopefully the ones you want to chime in will but, after reading the accounts from previous years on this site, the latest I’ve heard of someone getting an interview request for AFI Directing was like February 20th.

Btw - Congrats on the multiple, top notch, schools that are interested in you this year!

thanks Pryde! means a lot. Wasn't expecting to get into or hear back from any to be honest, so I need to just be grateful instead of sulking over NYU/AFI.

I believe I saw you comment on this topic somewhere else but have been struggling to find it - my analytics on AFI self into video shows 0% views - based on your application experience/knowledge - does this mean that I was "crossed off" early on ? I always assumed that they looked at ALL MATERIALS even if the person is an immediate no for them.
