FSU MFA Production 2013

Last year at this same time, the student services co-ordinator was kind enough to notify everyone that they had selected the first round of people and whoever was still under consideration was notified as well as the ones who were rejected. She replied to all my queries unlike the people at Columbia and UCLA. Have they done the same thing this year?

Normally wait listed folk will get some word around the end of April. I remember since I couldn't attend last year some lucky guy was sent out an invitation around the end of July. This time things are a go for film school. Am feeling nervous, excited and having withdrawal symptoms altogether.

Congratulations! I can't wait to see you in Tallahassee!

Our deadline to accept was April 17th!

Still no word here...I'm assuming I won't be hearing back until sometime after the 17th, when FSU gets an idea of how many people they initially offered admission accept the offer.

I haven't heard anything either. I interviewed for the MFA in writing back in early February. Does anyone know if writers are chosen before, after, or at the same time as production students? I emailed them last Monday and they said everyone was still under review but they would get decisions out by last Friday. I'm debating emailing them again today since I still haven't heard anything.

I applied for writing and interviewed at the end of February and still haven't heard anything either. I got antsy so I e-mailed a few times over the past month or so. In March I got back a form e-mail (twice) that said they'd let me know when they had more information. Last week I sent out another e-mail and was told they were letting everyone know of their admission status "within the next couple of weeks". I'd like to e-mail again too at this point, but not sure if that's a good idea as I probably won't get much information. There's no thread on here for the writing program so I don't know much from other applicants. Just frustrating because it's been a while!

I emailed them on Friday and got a response that we should hear something back in the next two weeks. I assume that would include writing. They can't hold out forever as people need to make decisions before other university deadlines as well. Hopefully they'll send something out by the end of next week once the acceptances for the first round have settled in.

I just emailed today. They said they should get back to everyone in "the next couple of weeks". Agh, I'm dying here!! I thought they sent all decisions at about the same time. Is there really a first round of acceptances? I'd like to think they would have told us if there were. BAH.

RIGHT?! It sounds like we got the exact same e-mail. I don't understand why they wouldn't just tell us what's going on like first round, rejected, waitlisted- whatever. I just want to know something at this point!

Has anyone that interviewed actually heard a "No."?

They interview 96 and accept 24 (production). There is no way that they haven't ruled out half of the group they interviewed. Just turn us down, get it over with and let us go on with our lives.

I think its total B.S. that I spent nearly $1000 dollars, taking time off work flying down there, getting a room, renting a car, buying food, etc... to not hear anything back from them for so long. It strikes me as exceedingly unprofessional from somewhere that prides themselves on professionalism. I'm trying not to let it make me think twice about the program as a whole...

Accepted for MFA in Writing. Interviewed in person. Notified via eMail on Apr 3. Accepted offer. I had a good experience going back and forth with everyone at the school. They answered my eMails promptly (within a day.) All schools will be coy until a final decision is made - try not to read into what is and isn't said. During my interview, one of the current grad students mentioned he was accepted off the wait list in June or July (it was also his second year applying and his second wait list.) I know that doesn't help if you want to make plans, get a good night's rest, or just move on with your life. My advice, there's reason to hope as long has you haven't received a letter saying otherwise. The stress shown on this thread reminds us all to be good graduate citizens and accept as soon as we make a decision and not wait until the deadline. It's good karma and karma doesn't expire. I do empathize with those in limbo. I was at the end of my rope waiting for a decision. Keep the faith - in yourself!

Has anyone heard anything since first round decisions were due on Wednesday? I think I'm going to email them this afternoon. This is just getting ridiculous. I don't know any other graduate program that drags out the process like this.

Dance - I truly empathize with your impatience. I don't have the info you want, but I can say no news is good news. No rejection letter in the post means there's still hope. If you contact the program, I recommend asking if all slots have been accepted vs asking about your own status. This gives you two pieces of important info. If all slots haven't been accepted - you know the cohort hasn't been locked down and you know you're still in contention. Big picture: The school depends on accepted candidates to make a decision. First rounders were given 'till the 17th to decide. I can't speak for all interview sessions, but Reb asked my group to be 'good graduate citizens' and if accepted, please make a decision as soon as possible so all candidates can move on with their lives. Hang in there.

I just want to hear something from them.

For somewhere that wants to sell us a $75,000 product, I feel like they could have at least sent out a form e-mail to just let us know whats going on.

All I'm asking for is at least tell me that the 1st round pics went out and I wasn't one of them. Explain the situation and maybe try to give some estimation of the deadlines. Don't make us go online and search for any information we can find and leave us to basically deduce the fact that we have been wait listed because we haven't heard anything. Tell us. We can handle the truth.

Got an e-mail informing me of the "alternate list." Nice to hear from them finally, would have preferred to know this before April 15th, but you know... a lot better than hearing nothing after so much effort and emotional investment.

I got the same email. I agree, not sure why they didn't send it out after the initial round of picks. Maybe the school was trying try to seem elusive or something, I don't know. Anyone get any acceptances this round? Good luck to everyone in the trickle down!

If they haven't said no then you're still being considered. All of the initial acceptance letters have probably been sent out by now, but there's still hope! Some people didn't get in last year until A WEEK BEFORE SEMESTER STARTED.

I think you are providing a false sense of hope in regards to being accepted a week before the semester starts, however, without meaning to I'm sure. I think the reason someone was accepted so late last year was because one of the international students had to have their acceptance deferred to this year (not sure how I feel about a decision like that for a program as selective as this one, but nonetheless I'm sure they deserved it!).

Still, that was very nice of you to create an account in order to get some of our hopes up. Personally, I don't like my chances. I'm aware of how my interview could have gone better so I'm kinda just waiting for that rejection email. My realism (pessimism?) won't actually affect my chances of getting in though, so I'll be all the more surprised and ecstatic if I actually do.

I understand not wanting to give the wrong impression, but not sending out any information for people who didn't make the 1st round until well after the standard deadline gives me the wrong impression. That led to me going though some very un-necessary anxiety and frustration. I did not like being forced to assume that I didn't get into FSU.

Newyou -- don't get your hopes up and don't expect to hear "no" either. As far as I can tell once you interview you are automatically on the "alternate list" and you won't be off the list until the semester starts. From now till then, it's limbo time. You, me and probably somewhere between 5 and 50 other people are all holding out hope and wondering what is going on. I think it is best we just put it out of our minds and focus on the here and now. Maybe one day we will open our e-mail and find something, but more likely than not we wont. ...and that's okay.

But anyhow, this thread has taken a decidedly negative turn and I feel partially to blame for stirring things up. I was frustrated at first, but it has worn off. I'm not really upset about not getting in, I wasn't sure I had what it took in the first place. I think we should cut FSU a little slack. It is a busy place it seems and the admission committee has its hands full; really the professors are just trying to make the best decisions they can in the time they have. I still think highly of the school and will be spending the rest of this year practicing my craft and writing for when I will re-apply next fall.
