Official UCSD - Visual Arts 2010

Hey Guys,

I went to UCSD and majored in Visual Arts, Media (film/video production). I graduated in 2008 with a thesis in hand and honors.

I know the program as well as anyone. Any last second questions and I'll do my best to answer.

No offense, man, but are you serious? You're going to post a message that encourages us to ask questions and then not even come back to answer them? O_o Tease. I apologize if I sound a bit too harsh, but dude, it's already near the deadline and 99% of people should have made their decisions by now or a week ago. Your information would have been useful in your original post.

Anyways, to the fellas, how you guys holding up? Out of curiosity, what's schools you guys end up picking? I figure you have made your decisions by now since I personally wouldn't want to labor over this over Memorial Day weekend ;)

As for myself, I officially submitted my SIR to UC Santa Barbara. I was really close to going back to SD because I really connected with the campus, the atmosphere, the city, and studious mindsets of people there, but I picked SB because contrary to popular belief, I think 'Film Studies' could be a useful tool for someone who wants to write and make movies, lol, even though your emphasis isn't on the "hands-on" part. Plus, other factors like great equipment, a brand-new theater, new FCP editing labs, and a soundstage certainly helps ;) But most importantly, I feel this program will give me the best opportunity to land a job straight outta college.

Anyways, good luck to you guys, and I know any choices you guys will make will be a great one!

I submitted my SIR to UCLA. Even though it won't be in a major I have much interest in, I know I'll have room to take other classes and perhaps weasel my way into hanging out in the film school. Plus, on the off-chance that I'm lucky, I'll have access to some valuable internships as its in Los Angeles. Plus...its UCLA. lol

I was about to choose San Diego though...and am still toying with the idea of submitting multiple SIR's and losing 100 bucks in the long run to keep my options open a lil longer. haha

Does anyone find this ironically funny, lol? We all wanted to work in the industry, get professional training, and make films by going to a "film school," but in the end, NONE of us are really going to a "film school"(i guess UCSD is probably the most "practical," but it's still not a classified a 'film school').... sometimes i can't help but laugh how life works out...cest la vie!

(since...we really don't know each other's names...haha)

Well, technically you guys already know the names of the "SB crew";), so I figure if I meet a person on a set that likes recent foreign films and went to UCLA as an anthro major, and another, who likes radiohead songs and went to UCSD visual arts, i'd have a good idea of who you guys were, lol, jk! :D
