NFTS 2014 (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I was sent an email on the 1st of July to attend an interview for cinematography, so I'm assuming that they've gone through all the applications, but that doesn't mean that they've informed all who have made it through to the interview stage.

Good luck to those who are still waiting.

Well done Geo - good luck with the interview.

any of the films you've shot online?

well I guess its early next week now. I don't think we'd see anything on the weekend. I hope we get to hear something by Monday/Tuesday. Until then, I'm gonna try and distract myself and not think about it too much... I'm spending the whole day on a recce today and tomorrow is work, so shouldn't be too bad... what's everyone else up to? Sorry to hear about your news Cadillac... keep writing though :-)

I am finishing an edit of a music video that I shot a while back... Hopefully should go live later on today as for the rest of the weekend - following your distraction policy - I think I'll do some gardening and painting around the house! Anything not to go crazy! :)

Good luck to everybody still anticipating news! To those who weren't lucky enough this year - keep working and keep on trying! We'll get there eventually...

Congrats on the invite! I received a rejection e-mail yesterday. Naturally a bit gutted, but I don't think it's healthy to rely on film school too much as a pathway to success. It's more of a luxury than a necessity.

Out of interest geo, how much of the work on your showreel did you write and direct yourself?

Hi Jonathan,

I wrote and directed all of it. Sometimes it's only sure way that I will get to work on the material I want to work on. Forcing the issue as it were.

How about yourself?

I submitted two pieces, one of which I only shot, and the other also wrote and directed.

I haven't decided if I'll apply again next year, but it seems to me that they favour work that you've written and directed yourself, almost because it provides proof to them that the entire fabric of the film has come from you.

Chin up. What are your plans for the year then? What time did you get the email?

Sorry for the delay. I received it at 5:47 pm.

To be honest, I don't think I will try again next year. I know it sounds stupid, but the validation of getting an interview was almost more important than me actually going. I would prefer a new job (in the film/tv industry) rather than an MA. I really want to buy a house next year, and I sort of knew I wouldn't be able to do that and go to the NFTS, even if I did some copywriting (my occupation) in my free time.

Still, it was a big blow not to get an interview. I will carry on with my writing, of course. I plan to send my stuff to competitions and perhaps attend some short courses and workshops later in the year.

Absolutely! Keep doing your thing and it's going to work out eventually!

Right, I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but has anybody applying for DF heard anything new since Friday? I am literally going crazy waiting for any sort of news now...

Nothing here as well. I guess we'll just have to wait patiently. Isn't it true that last year they were replying to DF applications until mid August?

I just got an email for an interview for DF so the emails must be going out today. Good luck everyone!

Congratulations!

Just received my rejection letter for DF. Next time with a bit more experience and probably a new film! Good luck to everyone.
Oh, sorry to hear that. Maybe next time.

I'm still waiting to get my email. I'm not expecting an acceptance, but you never know. Be what it may, but at least I won't bare the regret of not having tried.

Congrats MarioC, good luck with the interview. I just received my rejection email today.

Do you mind me being rude and asking what kind of experience you have? As this is just the sifting phase they don't give any feedback so it is difficult to know where I have fallen down. It would be nice to know what they expect from potential candidates as I may apply again next year.
