USC MFA - Film and Television Production - Fall 2025

Got an email late last night (1/6) asking to interview this Sunday (1/12), really stoked.

I know there have been people on here who have posted their interview process/questions, are there any threads that are worth checking out over other’s?
Hi, I got an interview on 1/12 as well, who is your interview professor?

Awesome! Good luck and be sure to update and/or log your applications on this site with that data. Very helpful to people. :)

Omg we have the same interviewer! I guess I will be the first one interviewed that day due to the time zone.I chose 9am PST and it’s 1am in my country…
Nice! I’ll be taking the 11am slot, let me know how it goes! I’ve been trying to find some info about his style of interviewing and it’s been tricky - but I’ve been told he’s a really nice guy so at least there’s that!

How did it go??
Thanks for checking in! I felt it went REALLY well. In the end, I feel like all you can hope for from an interview as the interviewee is feeling like it didn’t hurt your chances…and I really feel like it didn’t.

Really casual discussion and conversation. My biggest takeaway from the purpose of the interviews (for anyone reading this in the future is):

How well you can communicate your thoughts, how well you handle being put on the spot, how well you can handle stress in your life, and ultimately if you seem to align with the idea of the person that they had once they finished going through your entire application.

Now comes the most brutal 4-6 week wait I’ve had to deal with in over a decade lol

Good luck! I’m sure you impressed them! Thanks for the response!

Hey guys, it's great to hear about your interview updates, thanks for the insights. I have an interview tomorrow with John Watson. I was wondering if anyone has interviewed with him and has any advice on what to expect. Very excited and nervous, any advice helps. Thanks!

I interview with him Friday! Please lmk how it goes or what questions he asked!

BEST OF LUCK!!

What did they ask?? I’m gonna interview tomorrow
Each interviewer is different and the questions they ask are different, but as far as mine:

What will you do if you don’t get into USC?

What is your biggest regret in life and how did you handle it?

Who are some of your favorite filmmakers, past or present?

Then just some personal questions relating to my essays/video
