2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (15 Viewers)

Congrats @lady-vengeance on waitlisting UT!

Since Boethius mentions undergrad majors again--I was thinking about this. I would imagine certain disciplines allow for more diverse backgrounds. Writers can probably get away with studying anything as long as we write a lot regardless. Directors and producers, for example, probably have more hands-on experience, because their final product is different (a completed film, as opposed to a screenplay, which is--one hopes!--not the end product).

Heart racing. Palms sweating. Refresh button in need of replacement.

I wonder, though, if they are going to send out interview invitations at this time - I mean it is not during the working hours now right..
I believe I am a bit too nervous at the moment. Last night I dreamed that I received an email from Columbia and I woke up. Firstly by 1 am, then by half past 3. This is torture you guys. The worst thing is that I live in GMT+8 which means if I am gonna receive anything from anywhere it'd be gonna be during the night, which means I'm gonna have several more nights like this in the upcoming fortnight.

BTW, new here - glad to meet you all here.. :-))) I have been around for a while though.. sneakily..

Probably not - and same issue here. Almost completely reversed timezone. Does not really help the sleep. Feeling the heat even though from the schools I applied to, only USC has shown some signs of warming up. Then again from the whole of the spreadsheet only 2 have heard from them yet... but that was two days ago! I should really turn my attention to something else.

And @haochonger glad you stepped out of the shadows. It does help a bit to be able to vent "publicly" on the forum :)

Hey all. So I just wrote to Columbia trying to make sure my English proficiency requirements have been waived and I asked briefly about the approximate time that we're gonna get the interview invitation (if we are gonna get it). I was told it'd be around early March. I'm not sure if I'm a bit too paranoid or what, as it happens around mid February last year, I assume it'd be the same this year.. feeling that they're not gonna offer me a chance for interview now - or, do they actually DO inform people the interviews around early March? I'm so restless now. Thanks..!

Hey there, new to this forum. I only applied to the UCLA MFA Screenwriting Program. I was wait listed in the past. Hoping to make it all the way this year. No news as of yet, however, my friend in Virginia was just invited to an NYC interview for this program. Do they typically send out interview requests by order of region?

Wishing you all the best!

Have you been through the interview before?

Yes, I did an in person interview on campus at UCLA two years ago. Most of the questions I was asked were covered in the post about Questions to prepare for, however I was also asked if I've ever written anything collaboratively, what are my steps in the revision process, and what do I do for enjoyment outside of writing. Hope this helps. :)

I'm sure this depends on the school and probably varies year-to-year, but often people who live far away are notified sooner so they can make travel plans. No one has posted yet about having an interview on campus...

@Alison Hendrix I just started watching Orphan Black this past weekend and was wondering how I had heard Alison's name before... now I know! Really entertaining show! :)

I have a general question. So say I get an invitation to have an in person interview (I hope) and they want me come to the campus. I'd have to take off work and travel for any of the schools I've applied to and after just finishing taxes n such I don't think I can afford to take off time/pay for travel expenses. Does my inability to go to an in-person interview have any effect on my admission?

Might be a dumb question (asking for a friend ;)

Hey guys, has anyone heard back from UCLA for producing? I noticed one person got an interview on the spreadsheet and was notified quite early.

@russki_D503 Doing a skype interview should have zero effect on the committee's decision. When I signed up for my interview with Columbia, they asked me which method would be best for me: in-person, skype, or phone. They know not everyone can make it on to campus. :)

@Indus123 I also applied to UCLA for producing, and have not heard anything yet. Judging by previous years statistics, the Producer's Program seems to be one of the hardest to get into. :/
Honestly, I'm not losing hope just yet, but my expectations of getting into this program have been pretty low.

@katavi08 You're still alive! Used to seeing you post daily - kinda got worried for a minute there ;)

Anyways I have become surprisingly neurotic after two got an interview invite from USC. Constant forum stalking and spreadsheet browsing. Every e-mail is a disapointment :) I'd better just grab a glass of wine now that it's Friday evening over here :)

@Paul J. Yes, I am still here! haha. Ended up catching the nasty cold going around my office, which knocked me down for a few days. But, I have prevailed! :P

I wish it was Friday evening here! I've got another 6 hours before cocktail hour! :)
