Hello,

I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread for those of us who are planning to apply to a producing program ( USC, UCLA, Chapman, University of Miami). Also, for those who would like to maybe we could share our backgrounds (optional).

Background
Graduated in May 2007
Degree: BA in Art 3.65 gpa in last 60hours/ 3.56 cumulative.

Since graduating I've worked on a few local shorts, lead several multimedi/web based projects for my company, wrote a couple of scripts, lead federal grants programs.

Thanks,
Silverlenz

Hey,
I'm also applying for the producers program (USC,UCLA,Chapman, NTFS UK, Columbia).
I graduated this year from Delhi University (India), don't have much of work experience (summer internship as a copy writer for an ad agency), very worried about that, don't want it to count against me!
I did my undergrad in Mass media and communication, made a 30 min documentry on the plight of juvenile offenders in the indian justice system. Graduated with a first division honours, (65 percent above).
Little confused about the application system being an international student et all but trying to manage so far!
:)

Hello!
I'm also a little overwhelmed by this whole process! I'm applying to USC, Chapman (for the J.D./M.F.A Producing program, and Columbia.
I will graduate undergrad in May (Mass Comm/Theater (Directing). I've been a production intern working under a development producer. I've also done a lot of work in new media/social networking realm. Hoping that my directing, sketch comedy writing experience will help me out. But, it seems everyone is sooo seasoned!

I've been working on this personal statement for the last two hours. Man.. I can't wait until this process is over.

Same here! I'm afraid of being way too professional. But at the same time, I'm afraid of being too tacky. Write now I'm sort of listing things I may watch to touch on. How are you going about it?

Hmmm well... I've already planned what I want to say. Rite now I'm trying to make thing flow together. I think thats the hard part. I guess I'll see how everything turns out in the end.

Hello Everyone!

I am applying for the Producers Programs at UCLA and Chapman.

I graduated with a B.A in Communications/Broad Cast Journalism and a minor ethnic studies in May 2009
Cumulative GPA: 3.78

Almost done with UCLA Application and working on Chapman's next!

Does anyone know when decisions are made for the two schools?

LadyTee,

According to previous post on the site there seems to be a trend. I've noticed that several people on this site were notified of their acceptance towards the end of late February / late March.

Hi,
I will graduate from a Audiovisual Communications MA Program in Spain June 2010. Right now I'm an exchange student in the Theater and Film Studies Program in Inha University, South Korea. I was also an exchange student in the Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Program in Sabanci University, Turkey. My GPA is 3.44 and I have my own small production company: www.waccafilms.blogspot.com
I'm applying to USC, UCLA and AFI. I have a question about AFI's application. They say: "Supporting materials such as scripts, films or other samples of work are not required for producers" I am wondering if it would be good to send a reel or if just preferred if no one sent any footage.

Hi,
Don't know if anyone is still using this thread, but thought I'd introduce myself just in case.

I applied to the Stark program at USC and the MBA/MFA producing program at NYU.

I think both are a stretch for me as I was working in finance but quit my job earlier this year to travel and focus on doing something in film, so I don't have much experience.

Keeping my fingers crossed, though. Good luck to everyone who applied!

secretfatkid,

Have you looked at chapman? It's a great program with a later deadline and because it's newer it doesn't have quite the level of pressure and competition those other schools have. You should check out the program and maybe think of it as a safety school.

My Stark application is away and now I wait the three long, cold months until I hear of my admission or rejection (please, please don't reject me the third time!) from USC.

Barleyby Fink,

I hope you get in this time around. If you dont mind me asking, what kind of background do you have? What was your degree in? Why do you want to be a producer? What kind of things have you worked on in the past?

Thanks,
SilverLenz

I graduated at the end of 2006 with degrees in English and Communication. Since 2007 I've been employed at a local production company working to write, produce and edit short documentary styled pieces for corporate and non-profit clients and on various marketing materials ranging from online video to nationally broadcast 30-second spots.

I applied to the Stark program this year because as I've matured, so too have my interests. I've gone from seeing myself as less of the driving force in creative projects to more of the *enabling* force. I like making the pieces of the puzzles that productions so often are fit. I like the intersection between the business and the art of film.

The Stark program is going to give me a chance to learn more and be better. It's important for me to see and know all sides of everything, from the basics of loading and shooting a film camera to writing and shaping a script to making sure all the pieces are in place get that script made.

Other stuff, too, which I articulated (hopefully) better in my personal statement.

Thanks great Bartleby. Have you looked into any other producing programs. I applied to Columbia and I'm also applying to Chapman.

What do you mean you were put off. Pleae explain. Thanks.

notroberttowne,
I haven't really looked at Chapman. I may end up applying there since the deadline is much later, but right now I can't think about putting together another application after just getting done with NYU and USC.
