UCLA TFT Directing/Producing MFA - Hello classmates!

Hello! I just accepted entry to the UCLA TFT Directing/Producing MFA program, beginning Fall 2023. I chose UCLA because of the in-state price tag, and also I just personally vibe more with public schools. I was nervous because they seemed to have some real problems over the past few years, but they just reworked the first-year curriculum such that all TFT students focus first on experimental film, then documentary, then narrative—an approah that really appeals to me.

I'm coming to UCLA after a long career as a journalist. I still love nonfiction, so I'm glad to be able to take a hybrid approach even as I move towards narrative work. My goal is to be a writer/director who occasionally dabbles in doc.

Anyway, please say hi if we'll be classmates together! Maybe we can get a virtual film club set up before class starts. Or if you're already in LA and want to meet up, I'd be down for that too. I'm in Silver Lake.

Since Discord might be new to some of us, I’m starting a Whatsapp group chat as well: UCLA TFT MFA 23 | chat & chill

There’s no preferred option, just pick the one most convenient for you (Discord group is linked in the older post). In some regions (like China), you might need a VPN to have access to those apps.
