MMMMmmmm... Portos. Did you get the cheese biscuit thingies? (forgot what they're called) I could eat five million of them.

Oh and GOOD LUCK! :)

Hey guys, I just had my interview with AFI the day before yesterday, and had interview with UCLA a few minutes ago. I am an international applicant and I think generally I did ok....

for UCLA, they asked many things from my statement and my personal experience, even though I think I did ok for the pitch, I really don't know the result....and they told me it's gonna come out in middle April....so late!

best luck to all of you !

Just finished my Skype interview for UCLA (international student). I can't quite gage how it went. It felt a bit mechanical to me? There were 3 professors, but only one was really talking. A few personal questions, then like 2-3 interviewy questions. I am a bit foggy brained from lack of sleep and nerves, so I don't even know if I answered the questions directly or properly. It was very much so- question/answer, question/answer, not so much like a dialogue. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. There were no huge train wrecks, but I don't think that there were huge sparks either. They did ask for a link to my works at the end.

Anyways, as everyone stated, it was very informal. I had totally over-prepared. I did dress up in a button up shirt and blazer. I think in general for interviews, it's always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. I do wish I had slept a little bit more. They told me today was the first day of interviews, I am assuming this means for Directing/Film Production, and that decisions would be made around April 10th.

It seems like there is a lot of good news lately, congratulations to everyone! Good luck on all of your interviews! For those still waiting, don't lose hope. It seems decisions and interview emails are still going out. Also, as we all sit here being judged, we should remember what Alejandro González Iñárritu said on receiving his best director Oscar:

"Ego loves competition, because for someone to win, someone has to lose. But the paradox is that true art can't be compared, can't be labeled, can't be defeated."

so those of us who haven't heard a word yet. Should we be worried. I applied to UCLA and USC.

It depends on which school and program, but to be realistic: probably. The final word isn't the final word until mid-April, which is a general deadline for admission offers, but for anyone who hasn't heard back from their schools, chances should be considered thinner by each passing business day. Most programs have already sent out interview invitations, and some have begun to accept and deny.
However instead of worrying, I suggest doubling down and looking for other opportunities outside of graduate school while reconsidering whether or not you want to reapply in the next round. Stay active.

Also it's perfectly fair to call up these schools to ask if they have finished extending interview invitations, and to ask other questions.

Potato balls, Ropa Vieja Sandwich and a mango smoothie. My good luck meal.

Anybody have advice/experience for the Columbia interview? Also, can anyone weigh in on if it actually makes a big difference to go to the interview in person or do it over Skype? Thanks!

Any one else feel like a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs when it comes to USC? I check USConnect multiple times hourly. I didn't receive an interview and going this long without any word is making me feel like I'm about to have the proverbial boom lowered upon me.
Jumpy and nervous as I may be in limbo - I would like to go ahead and say that I've been paying attention to those who have been receiving good news on this thread and y'all are such an impressive bunch! My heartiest congratulations to you and I wish the best of luck to those of us still waiting.

Samesies, except Im waiting for NYU

Hi everyone!
I've been lurking for a while but I figured I'd jump in to say hello, cheer on and commiserate. I'm an American who has lived in New Zealand for over a decade. I did some research after studying and working in film and television and decided that AFI's Directing program matched what I wanted out of a school and would be worth moving back to the states for.

I haven't received an interview invite (yet?). I'm not really a conventional choice, I'm older (35) with a wife and daughter plus the overseas thing. Of course doubt has started to seep in. One last issue I'm facing is that the masters programmes down here in the southern hemisphere start in March not August so some quick decisions need to be made, about a week before AFI will be informing applicants.

So that's my situation. Big congratulations to those who have gotten interviews and acceptances! Those of you who haven't heard anything yet: I feel you.

Ok I'm back again with another (probably annoying) question but...
Does anyone have any experience with doing a 2-minute film pitch? I've never done a film pitch of any sort and I'm not even sure where to begin - do I start with a log line and go from there? Do I start with something technical like "The establishing shot is a high-angle, top-lit, medium close-up shot of a woman in what appears to be a rocking chair. She sways back and forth across the frame. We cut to a long shot of her figure and see that she is not in a rocking chair at all, but a wheel chair on the edge of a swimming pool...and she is slowly building the momentum necessary to fall - chair and all - into the deep end" and then proceed to tell the story arc?
Honestly I'm a nervous wreck over here and any advice would be so very appreciated.

Currently waiting for my phone call from a USC Professor! She emailed me earlier about calling to chat today. I'm FREAKIN' OUT over here. I wouldn't be so frazzled except that I has put USC out of my mind since I still hadn't heard from them. Not to mention I was out at a party last night, so I'm hungover and not in an academic mindset!

Wish me luck… I'm going to need it!
