2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (3 Viewers)

I checked the analytics of my showreel and apparently it was viewed in New York in the first week of January for roughly 4 minutes out of 29. The embed link was through 'columbia.edu'. That means NYU hasn't even seen my showreel yet! (Why did we pay for Slideroom then?)

As the clock keeps ticking, things get more tense on the waiting end. I hope all the decisions are well thought, doesn't matter if it's a yes or a no.

I just discovered this statistics feature on my youtube! Why don't they see the movies till the end ? I think they threw mine out of the window in the middle of watching it :( :|

Hi all
Got my rejection letter from USC today. Not that surprising.
Expecting a rejection letter from UCLA and NYU as well, as I haven’t heard from them yet. I’m also not feeling very good about University of Miami either. I was told by their admissions people that I would hear by the 2nd week of February, but nothing. I have no idea what to expect from Chapman. I feel like at this point I have to ace my interview at Columbia or it’ll be over.
Trying to stay optimistic, but I feel more and more defeated with every day that I don’t hear anything. :(

Hey, you've still got Columbia ahead of you. Getting in there would be awesome! It only takes one school to admit you and Columbia is a great one!

I'm sure you're going to kill your interview, too!

All you've done for this community, I think, reflects well on your capabilities managing projects and people.

hi lads,

I am international student and I applied to Cinematography programs of top schools in day of deadlines! (I sent my transcripts and scores about 7 days later!)

Till now I only received email from UCLA telling me to send my work to them.

Does completing application at deadline delay the decisions ?

Is there anybody international here and heard from AFI USC NYU lately ?

Thinking that I am rejected already :(

No don't worry. Only Peter Stark has sent out decisions. The other programs haven't sent anything out yet! There's still hope!

Thank you @sdotkdotn. I appreciate your kind words! Between being busy with my job, and waiting to hear back from these schools I feel like I never get a break from the craziness that is graduate admissions. :p
Yes, Columbia is a wonderful school. I would be very honored to go there, and I'm very excited for my interview next Monday!

Also, it's been a few days since I've been on the forum! I miss you guys! haha. Congrats to @Solomon_E on hearing back from Northwestern! And congrats to all the others who have heard good new within the past few days! :)

I'm so sorry to hear that!!! Keep your head up! There is still hope!

@Tiffany Kontoyiannis Producing program. Best of luck to the rest of you who are waiting to hear from USC! I want to see more good news than bad on these forums! ;)

Just received a interview invitation from the dramatic writing program of NYU! I noticed that a few others have been offered interviews as well... I wonder if you would like to share the contents of the interviews when they are done?

Hello everyone!

I am a international student. I'm new on these forums!! I applied to Columbia (Creative Producing) UCLA (Producers Program) and USC (Peter Stark). I am on the waiting list for Peter Stark program and I just had my interview with UCLA last week (I think it didn't go so well). Im traveling to NYC to have my interview with Columbia on Monday as well. Waaaa!!

Do you have any idea of how many students are in the wait list for Peter Stark?

Thank you everyone :)

I received an interview invitation for NYU Dramatic Writing yesterday (will interview on Friday). Checking the spreadsheet, it looks like only a couple of posters got interviews last year, but both got in, while all denials were without interviews. This year, it seems like almost everyone who has posted has gotten an interview. I assume this represents a change in NYU's procedure rather than exceptional luck among users of this site. Fingers crossed for the latter!

Different schools have different philosophies, from selection of applicants to teaching them. So do not worry my friend.

@Tiffany Kontoyiannis thanks. yes there is, but I think NYU filmmaking has sent out its invitation to interviews. therefore that is not a good sign!

Well I finally received good news!
While it's not from an MFA program I applied to - I did get into the Columbia TV Writing Intensive this summer! Pretty excited about that as it's my area of focus! I get to spend 6 weeks in NYC this summer and I couldn't be more excited. While I still hope to get into one of my MFA programs, this keeps me on track regardless of what happens with my other applications.

Yay! I thought/expected you'd get in to that program. :) I would have applied, but I realized that the class starts a few days before I have to be in Arizona to help out a friend who is getting surgery there. I'm on the look out for summer programs that start a bit later.

I wonder if I can update the schools I applied to that I'm doing this first in the summer? haha That's too bad you have conflicting dates. Would have been fun to do it with you! Anyone else interested in TV writing want to join? @Amanda it's right up your alley too!

I had my interview at nyu this morning it was Pretty nerve racking and I'm not sure how I did haha but wishing everybody good luck on their interviews. They mentioned that they pick 100 to interview from 1000 applicants.

Hi Anita! Congrats on your interview, I'm sure you did great. I'm flying from Barcelona for my interview with them on March 8th, and I was wondering: could you tell us some more details about the interview? Who was it with? Which kind of questions did they ask? I don't know... anything you think might be helpful...

THANKS SO MUCH! Best of luck to you and everyone!

I second Miguel23. I'm interviewing at NYU very soon and would love to know what questions you were asked, who interviewed you, and any other good advice.

Hey ok it's w 3 members of the department. They did mention that not all of them had been through all of your portfolio material. It's def more a conversation. They asked me what movies I had watched recently. Regrets in life. Where I see myself in 5 years. We talked about my undergraduate experiences and what I have been doing since I graduated. What types of movies I want to make. Then a current student takes you on a tour of the building. - Anita

Thanks so much for the info. In the interview did you go in-depth into your personal statement and portfolio materials? Also, were the three members of the department all directing/screenwriting professors?

Thanks again, and apologies for all the questions!
