2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (1 Viewer)

Hi archbrenemy,

Thanks for the info! I got 10 minutes assigned to me too. It does seem difficult to put our best foot forward with only 10 minutes as well as five interviewers present. I'd kind of prefer 1-2 interviewers when there's only ten minutes, but I'm sure they have valid reasons for wanting to interview as a group.
I totally agree that 1-2 would be better and less like a panel you are answering. It seems like it's the core 5 professors of the department, so I understand they all want to see all the people they are considering.

Although I haven't gotten an invite for Northwestern yet, I'm hoping I get one down the road. It's been really nice that there are a few of us this year who applied there. Seems like it's been quite a few years since more than just one or two people on the forum did!

Did anyone apply to Emerson's new low res MFA in screenwriting? I just got in and am wondering who else has....
Congrats! You're the first post I've seen from Emerson but on the spreadsheet it looks like there are a few other applicants. Maybe one of them will come out of the woodwork to join you now.

Hi Nikhail - I'm applying to their Media Art program, which is their equivalent of a film production program. Looks like most others on the spreadsheet are applying to that program too. I haven't heard back from them, but hopefully lurkers can post if they've been accepted to the screenwriting program.

Were you looking to connect with classmates or get more info on the program? I'm not too familiar with how the low residency program works, but I live in Boston and have taken courses at Emerson/with Emerson professors and worked with a lot of their filmmakers - it's a great school!

Hi everyone, I've been meaning to share the intw process with NYU for the Film Grad MFA but just got too busy to get around it. Hope info is still timely for those about to intw. So here we go:
1. intw lasted 30 mins
2. panel of 3 women (chair of program, a producer, a cinematographer --- don't remember the names)
3. they started by congratulating saying that I had passed two former stages of review and that this intw was the final stage. They said each of them had reviewed closely a different part of my application.
4. then they proceeded with these questions [ I have to admit, my intw was last week, I forgot some]:
  • introduce yourself: where are you now, what are you doing?
  • tell me about X in your personal statement, what type of person is she? Are you in touch with her?
  • why film school now?
  • when do you feel free? Why?
  • do you have any fears regarding the program (once in)?
  • what do you think you'll bring to the student body?
  • what stories would you be working on first?
  • how do you make a sad story compelling?
  • why NYU?
  • any questions for us?
I asked them when we hear back, they say mid March/end of March.

I think it went quite well.

Let me know if you have any question guys...
Good luck to everyone!
peace.

AFI People-

Anybody else starting to worry that they aren't even going to get the chance to interview? I know AFI was late to start the process but as each day passes it gets harder and harder for me to have hope that anybody wants to give me a chance. I've read and heard different things. Some say that applications are processed in the order they are received. I think if I was interviewing people that I'd look through all the applications first and try to secure interviews with the prospects I was most interested in recruiting. Anybody actually know how AFI conducts the process?

Freaking out.

@WriterGirl Hey- I saw that you were contacted for an interview with AFI today. Congratulations!

Thank you! It was a very nice surprise, and honestly completely unexpected since I had given up hope on them already (because they seemed to have already contacted a couple of people a couple of weeks ago).

Crossing fingers that it goes well (I get super nervous at interviews) :)

Hey, I dont know about Afi but for NYU there are people who were people who got on with no interview what so ever.

If AFI is your top choice school, I'd try not to despair yet since they contacted me today when they had already contacted some people a couple of weeks ago, so I don't think anyone really knows how they're conducting their selection process this year... *shrugs*

Hi @peace,
Thank you so much for sharing your interview questions and process. That's incredibly kind and generous. Your name reflects that for sure. I hope you get in!

p.s. I'm doing a Skype interview tomorrow.

Yeah I've definitely been starting to feel that way, but I guess we won't know till it's over!

Hello all!
Been a crazy few days! I had my interview with Columbia yesterday. I think it went OK. The original plan was that I would meet with the department chair and a faculty member, but something got messed up with the interview schedules, and neither of them were able to make it. As a result, I met met with a different faculty member who hadn't seen any of my application materials. He didn't ask me that many questions. On the plus side, I got to ask a lot of questions about the program, which was great. Overall, I'm not sure how well this faculty member got to know me, and that worries me a little. He didn't give a timeline for when I would hear back from them. I don't know if that's a bad sign or not! :P
We'll see what happens. Honestly, I'm still flying high from being accepted into Miami. Considering how cold it's been in my home state, there offer is looking better and better every day. :)
Oh, I also got rejected from UCLA's Producing Program. Not surprising. :)

Hello guys. I wanted to share with you that I received an acceptance email from Boston University today morning, with some scholarship too. Really nervous about the other schools though. Hoping they break the silence soon. And good luck to those who were interviewed, received interview invites and congrats to those of whom who got accepted so far.

Hello, fellow FilmSchoolers! (not technically though)

It gives me immense pleasure to share with y'all that I got an acceptance letter from Chapman University about 15 minutes ago! I'd applied for their MFA Production (Editing Emphasis) program! So happy to get my first letter! :D

My interview with Columbia is in exactly 24 hours, so wish me luck for that as well!

@Sibi Naayagam, congratulations to you too! I haven't heard from BU yet, but I guess this will be an enlightening week for all of us!

@tutenkhamen Whoo! Congrats!
And good luck at your Columbia interview!

Tough luck @katavi08. But i guess these things do have a plus side. Bit of an anti-climax though, cause you have been waiting for it for so long. Guess, things aren't always perfect at filmschools. :p

Best of luck @tutenkhamen .

I just got accepted into LMU's Writing for the Screen program! It seems like a great program, and I'm honored to be given the invitation.

That's wonderful news! Did you receive your acceptance notice by email?
