2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (4 Viewers)

Congrats everyone who got accepted! Sadly, I've just received news from Fulbright today that I was rejected for NYU. Anyone else who's been interviewed received rejection letter?

Still waiting to hear back from other pending institutions.

Greetings,
Just found this forum yesterday. Good timing because I probably would be extra stressed about acceptances/rejections had I found it earlier. I applied for documentary MFAs (I haven't really seen any doc people on the forum).

I have been accepted into:
-American University
-Chapman (with fellowship award)
-Northwestern (with scholarship)

Chapman University was tied as my 1st choice (I got rejected by Stanford) but Northwestern has now become equal (if not surpassed) to Chapman. I have yet to visit either school. I wanted to wait until I was accepted into a program before visiting. I set up a visit for Northwestern soon and wanted to head to Chapman right after but that would be past the 14 day confirmation/deposit deadline. This week Chapman was on spring break so I couldn't visit it even if I wanted to. I would like to visit both schools before I make a decision. Does anyone have any insight on either documentary programs, as they are relatively new? or on the culture at each?

Thank you in advance!

I was accepted at Columbia today! So excited! This board definitely helped me stay sane, and will continue to do so as I enter the deciding phase.

congratulations to all you who accepted. I am from Canada recently moved to Seattle.
I wanted to share my story to ask your advice. I have an admission from York ( A Canadian university in Toronto which fund all my tuition fee. and also fot admitted from Simon Fraser and UBC in Vancouver which fund part of my tuition fee (Tuition fee in Canada is so cheap.something around 10k). on the other hand in USA I got admitted from Columbia/ no fund( tuition fee is around 55k ).. MassArt with 4 k scholarship and tuition fee is 23k and Seattle Film Institute 33k
each has its own benefits but do you think columbia worth it? if i go to York in Canada and come back to US to work here i still have to have american experience and connection so it will be useless studying in Toronto or Vancouver?
and what about Seattle film institute? I know its a joke compared to all these universities but at least its in Seattle where my spouse live here for a long time.
i know at the end of the day its me who have to decide and choose but what you all friends think which might lead to better opportunities considering the tuition fee which some of them are a fortune but at the same time it might be good invest for the future.. i am confused ..what you all think?
Thanks for the patience reading this long:)

@samlenon Don't pay the 33k for Seattle Film Institute. If you're going to pay for a graduate program in film of all things, your best bet is a prestigious program in NYC or LA. That's where a vast majority of the opportunity is; if you want to work in the industry in the US, eventually you'll be in one of those two places, so it's extremely advantageous to be there for school to being building your connections and reputation.

@Amanda I am thinking the same.. though Columbia is a lot of money..Thanks Amanda for sharing your idea. I also applied to the City College of New York for their MFA Film Program. Have you heard anything about it>? Its much cheaper..

@samlenon-
Hey- I've lived in Seattle for the past 25 years. Do not sacrifice an opportunity to go to Columbia or a well known graduate film school to attend the Seattle Art Institute. Anybody that I know that has ever actually made it in the film industry that has graduated from Seattle Art Institute had to move to New York to do so anyway. You will work on a lot of small, student film projects and then they will provide you with little to no industry exposure and contacts. You're basically on your own. You can't network because there is nobody here to network with. Everybody is trying to scrape up work and you're lucky if your gig is even paid and that's after years of putting in the time and paying your dues. Just my opinion.

@samlenon I am not familiar with City College of New York, so I can't really give an opinion; however, not knowing of it says something in and of itself, in my mind.

At the end of the day, Columbia is a spectacular program in a well-connected city. If this is really what you want to do, the extra cost should be worth giving yourself the best bet with the most potential for advancement.

Hey everyone! Just a reminder as we enter the decision phase - for future applicants, as well as those of us who are curious - please do go back to the spreadsheet as you make your choice and update your status to "Attending" at the school you pick. Thanks!

Hey Everyone! Last week I received an Email from NYU saying I've been Waitlisted.
I wanted to ask the people that were interviewed: has anyone else been waitlisted? And also, does anyone know how the NYU waitlist works? I mean: What are the chances of being accepted from the waitlist?

Thanks so much!

LOL, @jedi578k same here! Worked really hard on their application, got a rejection letter today. :P

I emailed BU and they said only 10 people will get in. It is a fierce competition indeed!
P.S for the future applicants: Do not make BU your back up plan LOL.

Their letter was pretty well worded though, LOL. NYU's was pretty 'stern' (pun intended) in that regard. ._.

I think the chances are decent. The student who toured me after my interview mentioned he was waitlisted.

Hi! I got waitlisted too! Not sure if that's the place I'd want to go to though. Did you get a reply back when you emailed confirming you want to be on the waitlist? I didn't and am just paranoid about whether or not they received my email, but I'm probably just psyching myself out haha
