Columbia SOA MFA Directing & Screenwriting Fall 2025

Hey everyone,

I'm new here, but haven't been contacted for an interview. Assuming that I won't be accepted. Weirdly though, I did get an email from Columbia's School of Professional Studies on accident. I don't know if anyone else got that or if it was just me? Anyways, wishing everyone the best of luck when decisions come out later this month.

Congrats everyone!

Just so you know we launched a new feature where you can create private threads so you can meet your fellow accepted applicants.

Feel free to make a private thread for accepted Columbia applicants in this forum here:

How to instructions here:

Let me know if you have questions on how to go it and congrats!

I just had my interview! I may be one of the last – March 18 was the final date I could choose from when selecting an interview date. Hopefully that means decisions are coming soon.

Good luck to you all! It's been helpful to lurk in here for the past month to read about the interview process and to just feel a bit less crazy during the long wait. Thank you!

Who interviewed you?

General question. Are decisions based solely on who interviews you or do they decide on each applicant collectively? Cause if I’m being honesty, this has been the most confusing experience 😭 Like why send out acceptances if you’re not done interviewing? Somebody explain please

maybe only the writing concentration acceptances were sent out?

Hi everyone! I'm a new poster but I was accepted into the Writing for Film and TV program (David called me last Thursday!), as well as the Creative Writing MFA program at NYU and I'm having trouble deciding between the two programs. The NYU program is fully funded, but Columbia offered me a scholarship of 50k that would repeat every year which I also feel hesitant to turn down considering they are kind of known for being cheap when it comes to aid. I'm also kind of worried about the political situation at Columbia? If anyone has any thoughts or advice it would be appreciated!

Thank you!! :) In the email it said the direct costs would be ~86k a year, so I would be paying around 36k in tuition per year (which is still a lot!) However, I live in the area and was hoping I could save money by commuting or something. Not sure if that will be possible though because I don't really know what the structure of the courses will be like, but I know commuting would be feasible for NYU!
