Hi, I'm Chris, also an international student from China. I was accepted to Emerson college and SVA.

I had already decided to go to Emerson, but when I was choosing my courses, I started to hesitate between SVA and Emerson. When I was looking at the Emerson first year program, I saw that the courses we would be taking were more media related and a little different from film.

I also asked a lot of people who attended this school much earlier and read quite a few reviews on this site, and found that Emerson first year's required courses and many of the elective liberal arts courses are really barely related to film and don't help much: Emerson, being an old film school, traditionally thinks that this helps students have a better foundation.

However, when I compare other schools (NYU, USC, Chapman, Calarts, SVA), I find that universities take classes on both film theory and production in the freshman year, while art schools like SVA will focus on production mainly.

For me, I was more eager to learn about theory and production directly related to film, especially production. At the same time, I've learned that SVA can be very pushy and time for life and relaxation will be compressed.

Can anyone who attended either school tell us what it was like to be in the freshman program? Also, since I'm considering transferring in the next year, I'm curious if the gpa is high? Thanks!
