FSU MFA Motion Picture Arts – Production 2020

New here but I have been keeping up with the forum! I also interviewed but have heard nothing back. It sounds like all of the acceptances went out this morning :(. Can anyone confirm this?
I don’t think so! Another applicant was accepted at the beginning of March. I think it might be rolling

Congratulation to everyone who got the acceptance!!!!

But I haven't heard back anything either.
Feel really desperate.
I can only hope that maybe something good will happen later.😭😭😭

I asked about scholarships and was told that assistantship applications open after you accept their offer of admission and that any other aid can be found through the grad school. Just an FYI for those who were considering that as a factor!

There are very few assistantships available and the number changes every year depending on funding. Just an FYI. But I was told they will really work with you to help you afford it. The current students told us about how one student told faculty she could not afford to return the next year and they found her the money so they will work with you if money is an issue for anyone!

That sounds great! Unfortunately, I didn’t really get that vibe when I brought it up with admissions. Maybe you have to accept the offer before they can work with you on money?

Yeah when I asked in my interview they only said they have a few assistantships a year. I forget the exact amount and I don't want to mislead anyone. But this info is from current students whose assistantship work included picking me up from the airport, dropping me off at the hotel, bringing me to the school etc. So we had plenty of time to chat and they were very adamant about not worrying about how to pay for it. It's actually extremely affordable compared to the other top schools if you are from the southern United States. I'm not sure how they help international students, but there was an international student who also had an assistantship so I'm assuming they work with everyone.

I would just talk to someone from the school when you can if you are serious about attending and see what they can do for you. If everyone was telling me the truth it seems like they can afford to do a lot lol.

Hope this helps someone. I feel like I absorbed so much when I visited I just want to help anyone who wasn't able to go to decide!

At this point, it’s looking like I won’t be and I’m sure others who’ve been accepted might end up not going either so I think more spots will also open up that way!
I'm still deliberating and waiting to hear back from a couple more places, so it's possible I might not either.

If you both don't mind me asking, whats turning you away from fsu? I'm just curious because I still have not heard back yet and if I am not accepted I plan on reapplying next year, as well as to other programs

I was turned away by my interview experience and the information I learned about FSU through the application process. I’ve written a post about my interview experience in the thread already but in short, I found their approach very off putting and not in line with the culture I’m looking for in a school. I also learned along the way that FSU doesn’t have a mentorship or internship component to their program, both of which are very important to me.

At the end of the day though, I had a wonderful experience applying to a different school and was lucky enough to get offered admission there. I don’t think there is anything wrong with FSU, it’s just not what I am looking for in a school.
