NFTS - The best choice for a film to submit?

Hi all,

I am currently on my 3rd year of my Bachelors and I am planning to apply for Directing Fiction at the NFTS entering in 2015. Right now I am starting developing my graduation film which actually will be the one I will send as part of my application.

My concern is what kind of film they would probably prefer. My style is more of experimental, like probably Tarkovsky or Rogue, rather than classical. So do you think if I make a really good non-conventional film will still be as much appreciated as a film having classical narrative structure?

At the open they told me they are quite open, but I am not that sure.

Thanks a lot,
Tasos

Hey Tasos,

I was at the Open day too, I think the message I got out of it was that they want to see our Directorial skills, your voice in the film. They particularly stressed that it doesn't matter what you shoot it on, as long as it shows off your directing potential. Tarkovsky and Rogue both have their unique voices, like you could look at a frame from either of their film and instantly be able to tell who's it was. A Good director in my opinion, would be able to tell a story, convey a message using either conventional or non-conventional mediums.

I am going to apply for the course starting in January 2015 too. I am currently racking my brains to produce a new piece of work, as I'm sure all of us who are applying for this course are. I hope it works out well. Good luck to you. :)

Cheers
Adi
