2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections

@Chris Wright I guess that might be the case. But at the same time extremely odd to get anoyed about that and just skip. To add to all this - it wasn't a student film so logos and credits were kind of obligatory. I guess I could have cut them away for the sake of the application video but it honestly never crossed my mind.

And my case aside - if some people's portfolio videos haven't even been opened... well it hardly seems like a fair assesment of the application as a whole, does it?

I agree. I never expected that such an important part of a submission would be barely opened, or not opened.

I agree... They only watched about a minute and 30 of mine. I almost wish I didn't look at my stats. Curiosity killed the cat!

The admissions people have a ton of submissions to go through and they aren't required to provide any feedback, so I don't think it's a surprise that they might not give an application their full attention. The platonic ideal might be that they comb through every submission and carefully weigh it against all the others but I bet more than likely they work on snap judgments.

But keep in mind nobody accepted me...if I'd got in somewhere I might think differently! ;)

@googoomuck I think you are spot on with your assesment. With applications probably in the four figure range, it would take forever to give all ones 100% attention. I want to reiterate that I am not complaining because I feel mistreated myself - I was fortunate enough to get lucky this year around. And am super greatful! It just bothers me that schools like Tisch give the option to upload up to 30minutes and that demo can contain multiple diferent pieces of work to best showcase ones talent. And then not even open it? I cant help to feel that they must be passing on some talent this way. I'd rather have them ask for a 3-5min video submission if that is what they really want or have time to watch. I know most would send a very different video submission if that would be the criteria. I'm going to stop my rant for justice now. :)

Is there anyone out there who have not received an Acceptance, Rejection, Waiting list or any sort of notification from USC Screenwriting Department regarding your application?

Apparently they are still sending out Acceptance, rejection, and waitinglist notifications. The lady at the front desk stated she was actually processing ACCEPTED application notifications.

Hi everybody!!

Anyone who applied to NYU Directing program heard back (acceptance wise)?

Also, re: USC, do you guys know how we select courses? I found the course catalogue but I'm wondering how many courses we can select per semester, which ones are the ones that are compulsory --- if any etc.? Also, the website says classes start August 22nd or around that date, anyone know if this correct for this fall class? I'm guessing we are supposed to receive info by mail but there's no functioning post office where I am based so not sure how they plan on communicating the info....

Any tips welcome, thank you guys!!! And good luck to everyone!

The 8 units listed in the catalogue for first semester are not only compulsory, but they should be reserved for your cohort. I'm in the writing program, but it's mostly the same for the production catalogue listings. You should receive emails from your department advisors in the summer time about choosing sections and eventually planning your 3-yr program.

Thank you so much @peace. I sincerely appreciate the kind words, it really means a lot! I called USC again today and it appears it was a bug after all. Should know for sure now within the next two days!
Congratulations on your acceptance to USC, and good luck for NYU! You won't need any luck though, I don't think. :)

I've just finished my interview with Columbia last weekend. Literally it was passed like a lightning, felt like 8~10 min, but I realized that 30 minutes was fully used for my interview after checking my watch.

I was soooooo~ tensed(I'm an international applicant, Directing concentrate), but I've done it anyhow. No ideas for now. Just hoping to hear some good news from the school soon. :)

I got my LMU rejection Monday (today)! Oh, well.
Still no letter for me, but I suppose I'm technically a little further away. In the LMU thread it looks like those who were already accepted a few weeks ago are just now getting their snail mail letters.

@Solomon_E did your letter come in the mail? I haven't heard back from LMU yet, but I'm wondering if I'll receive my rejection in the mail rather than hear anything online...
@jj45 Yep, my LMU rejection came in the mail. I didn't get an email or see any changes online. The letter I got in the mail was brief and to the point - the first line made it clear what the decision was and I knew straightaway it was a rejection. I hope that helps!

@Solomon_E Thanks for responding! hmmm I think I should probably start expecting a rejection letter as I've heard nothing and also haven't seen any changes online. Perhaps I'll just give them a call tomorrow..

LMU and Chapman Insist that we should declare our decision two weeks after official letters.
which is two weeks from now. UCLA and AFI have not announced accepted applicants and UCLA's interview date is three weeks from now. I did not see this joke coming when applying to schools. It is absolutely a dilemma :|
