2017 - MFA Applicants

My UCLA application is in as well :)
I'm going to try and get in two others (LMU and BU) submitted before the year is over.
Happy December, everyone!

@Chris W, when do people start joining the conversation? Maybe things start picking up around notification period?

I've applied to UCLA and USC for the Screenwriting MFA. I live in LA and am not able to relocate to any of the other great schools. Hopefully I will get into one of them o_O

Sent in NYU and AFI this week. Best wishes to all who've applied/still applying to their schools!

Wait did anyone else notice that LMU changed their "MFA in Feature Film Screenwriting" to "MFA in Writing for the Screen"? I've been checking their website every few weeks, but is this a new thing?

Edit: Just saw that FilmSchool's review for LMU is in Writing for the Screen. I could've sworn that, at one point, it was Feature Film Screenwriting... I was going to apply to their MFA in TV Writing because I didn't like Feature Film as much, but now I'm definitely applying to Writing for the Screen.

You're not going insane. I made up a chart with deadlines and program names and such and at least at one point "Writing for the Screen" was labeled as "Feature Film" or something to that extent. Now I'm torn because I had intended on applying to the TV Writing because it seemed like the more encompassing program but now it seems like Writing for the Screen would be the better choice. At least I have a month to decide.

I haven't looked at the current LMU program info, but as far as I understood the TV program was designed for showrunners - so there is a lot of producing classes involved as well. I think you mentioned you wanted to be a show runner in the UCLA thread? Do they allow you to apply to both? I know we had users on the forum get into both of their writing programs last year, maybe ask them about the differences they've seen first hand too.

Okay, good to know. I also was going to do the TV writing, but I think the Writing for the Screen is more encompassing. I just a program where I can write a lot.

Hey everyone! :) I am considering applying to San Francisco State Uni, Brown Trinity, Visual Arts, CalArts (maybe?) and Columbia College Chicago all for filmmaking/directing. I've decided doing so quite late, so I missed admissions to NYU and Columbia, and feel pretty heartbroken about it. I am now concerned whether I should send out my applications even though I feel I am somewhat raw, or should I wait 1 more year and get better prepared for Spring/Fall 2018? Btw, if you have any thoughts about these MFA programs, please leave a comment, thanks! :)

Hey everyone!! I am currently in an MFA acting program and I also have an MA in Theatre Education from NYU but I am starting to gain interest in film and writing so... I applied to the following!

Creative Producing - Columbia
Dramatic Writing - NYU
Musical Theatre Writing - NYU
Screenwriting and Producing - Brooklyn College

Any info on Point Park program or any low resident programs?

Are you sure you missed the deadline? I would check again.

The deadline for NYU was revised. It is now 15th December.

I don't know if that's enough time but still I thought you should know.

This is incorrect as far as I can tell. Deadline has passed. The NYU Stern deadline for MBA is 12/15 though.

The NYU Dramatic Writing deadline is 15th December. I received an e-mail from their admissions office and also double-checked it on their site this morning.

I haven't done so for the Directors' program though.

It's screenwriting, tele-writing, playwriting rolled into one.

The program is administered by TISCH and falls under the Rita Goldberg dept for film.

It's different to the MFA in Filmmaking course.

Had an interview for the London Film School last week. Just received an email that I'm not accepted. They said the reason was not enough experience.

Doh! What's next for you then? Working on some films for experience? Which aspect of the program did you apply to or was it just general filmmaking?
