2015 Interviews - Acceptances - Rejections (2 Viewers)

@StellaZ086 I saw on the google doc that you wrote you'd know a decision from UCLA within a week. I thought it'd be at least a couple of weeks minimum. Is that what your interviewer said?

Yeah that's what they said: within a week, no more than 10 days, which means we'd hear from them this coming week at least. My friends interviewed for the production program and told me that the decision would be made around mid-April.

Whoa! Good news, then. Yeah, screenwriters usually hear first.

Alright, now I'm going to be checking my email even more obsessively.

I just finished up my MFA interview with FSU. I don't want to jinx myself, but I thought it went pretty well. I may not have actually answered some of their questions fully, but I tried to expand and elaborate about myself and my ideas whenever I had the chance. The group interview section was a little rough, but I think we managed to work well together and try our best.

Hey,

Had my interview with AFI (directing) this tuesday in NYC. A young alumni was present and the dean Jan Schuette.

It was really casual, relaxing, we talked about my background, the genisis of my short film, why AFI, what do I expect after AFI. However, Jan was really caught up on that I was only 22 (will be 23 in June). He said that he was just thinking about this, but generally people are 27 and ready to work after graduation.

This began to irritate me, I sort of tried easly to defend myself; I've lived in two diverese countries, one half in Denmark and the other half in Hungary, also, traveling has always been a key part in my life. Jan was nodding and agreeing and said again that he was wondering.

However, I felt something weird. Why invite me to interview when they can see on paper that I'm 22 years old. The young alumni who was present got accepted at the age of 24 and I had a little chat with him about this. Also Jan raised a pretty defficult question: What would I choose; AFI in two years from now or any other filmschool now. I answered AFI because that is my first choice and has always been.

What do you think? :)
Hey man!
During my interviews with Columbia and UCLA, they both said I'm young ( I'm 21 and still in the last year of my undergraduate study and will get my bachelor's degree this June) .
When Columbia faculty said "you are so young", I was kind of freaking out. And my reaction was so embarrassing. I said" Wait, is it a rejection?" ...............Can't believe i said this.
How long did you AFI interview last?
Can I ask did you apply to other schools and also got interview invitations?

It was in NYC. It went well, I hope! Basically it seemed like they were seeing who I was as an applicant.

@RSY now you have me paranoid!! Debating whether or not I should delete my post/account! Haha.
How long was your Columbia interview?
They asked if I have any question for them at 9 minutes. ( I have my Columbia interview via Skype so I'm pretty sure about the time)
My interview was pretty short...I have no idea if length implies anything.
They asked something personal (from my PS), and what do i think the biggest difference between American movies and my home country's movies ( I'm an international applicant). And that's all.

I've had interviews for UCLA & AFI Producing in February. A good question to ask is "The industry is changing a lot, how has the school changed to adapt?" and "What do you look for in potential graduates?" They usually open the door for more conversation.

Re: Columbia, I felt like they asked me if I had any questions very early on in the interview as well. Took me completely by surprise.

In other news...I officially got accepted to UCLA for Screenwriting. :)

Congrats, JSM. How were you notified? By admissions committee or by the person who interviewed you?

Hi guys, I have a question. I am accepted to Chapman for this fall and USC for spring like some of you did, waitlisted for fall but offer a spot for spring. So I guess spring sounds like an ideal time.
I really want to study one semester at Chapman and later come back to USC, can I do that?
some of my friends say graduate schools are very exclusive, they don't allow you to accept other schools' acceptance if you are admitted to one already. I also called USC's admission, they said no. I can't take chapman's offer and study even I'm regardless going to USC for sure.
Just want to have some opinions from you guys.

Thanks
And congrats to all of you who are admitted

@JSM High five back!

Sitting at work now. Getting absolutely nothing done for the rest of the day.

@chinatown86, I also received my email from the TFT admissions rep. Have to submit an intent to enroll by 3/20.

Congratulations, TheArsenal1886 and JSM - that's awesome news!

I've been a long time lurker, first time poster! Hopefully I'll be hearing back from some of the other schools I've applied to. I think the interviewing went well - AFI was relaxed and casual and FSU had quite a few curveballs...but fingers crossed I guess!

Hey guys, just had my skype interview with NYU. I don't know if this is too late in the game, but if you have an interview coming up for them, here are some things to help you prep (they seemed to have more of a structured interview than USC):

Be ready to summarize your personal statement, and answer various questions about it.

Tell a story that you have heard over and over growing up (about your yourself, parents, family, etc).

Talk about your favorite directors and why.

Why NYU?

And have a few questions to ask them as well!

Good luck! The interviewers (there were three) were super chill and it was actually a lot of fun to chat with them.

Oh and if you are going to USC, add me on fb because I hear we are gonna be friends forever. https://www.facebook.com/elisamuoh
