2015 Interviews - Acceptances - Rejections

@kd6 Thanks! I think we'll be getting a lot of news this week. It's almost mid-March after all, and it's supposed to be a high volume time for admissions notifications.

Hello. I am an international student from Egypt. I had my interview with NYU. I had prepared the answers to a few questions in bullet points..1) 2) 3) in my head. It was easier for me that way. These are the general questions that I was asked. I think they may be asked in other interviews as well. All the best. Hope this is helpful.

Q1/ Why go to film school now? Why have you applied for an MFA now?
Q2/ Who are your favorite filmmakers and why? (Have a few names in mind, their films and why? Watch their films again. You might be asked about a particular scene.)
Q3/ You may have more experience than others in you class, how do you feel about that?
Q4/ You may be asked to highlight something about your city and why?
Q5/ What will you add to the classes and NYU?
Q6/ Be prepared to talk about your visual sample.
Q7/ Describe something interesting that has happened to you recently (Have one or two incidents in mind.)
Q8/ What are the challenges you may face once you are there?
Q9/ What kind of films you want to make?

For Skype interviews: I think it is really important to say at the beginning where you are.. location/city.

-Look up some short films/films by graduate film students, it might be helpful to bring it up as an example to something you'd like to make or something you'd like to learn in one of the editing or writing classes.

DON'T FORGET TO ALWAYS SAY HOW AND WHY? I think it helps to answer the questions in the form of a story if you can.

Good luck to everyone preparing for interviews.

Hey guys, just had my skype interview with NYU. I don't know if this is too late in the game, but if you have an interview coming up for them, here are some things to help you prep (they seemed to have more of a structured interview than USC):

Be ready to summarize your personal statement, and answer various questions about it.

Tell a story that you have heard over and over growing up (about your yourself, parents, family, etc).

Talk about your favorite directors and why.

Why NYU?

And have a few questions to ask them as well!

Good luck! The interviewers (there were three) were super chill and it was actually a lot of fun to chat with them.

Oh and if you are going to USC, add me on fb because I hear we are gonna be friends forever. https://www.facebook.com/elisamuoh

Just as timeline data, I was accepted to LMU Writing and Producing for TV program today. They called me on the phone, but no email or physical mail notification, though they said to expect the latter in a week or two.

I heard from BU's MS in Television on 3/6 via email.

Congrats EdgeWit, got a couple of friends in that program, they seem to be having a blast!

Just wanted to pop in and say I got my acceptance from UCLA today as well :) (Screenwriting)

So out of completely self-serving curiosity: is anyone who has been accepted to USC planning to NOT attend USC (for screenwriting)... being on the waitlist at USC and not having applied anywhere else, I have only this one option.

Do they guarantee you spring admission besides fall waitlists?

I'm wondering if anyone applied to Emerson?
I'm admitted into Emerson. It's a safety school for me but I don't think i did well for UCLA and Columbia interview. So.... i might go to this school.

Here are my updates so far:

USC - Accepted via email for the production track (2 weeks ago)
Chapman - Accepted via email for the production track, focus in directing (this past weekend)
NYU - interview tomorrow morning!!
AFI - interview last week and it went pretty awesome :)

Congrats to everyone on their good news! It's all very exciting :D

Hi everyone! My name is Esther. I have applied for UCLA producers program, USC and AFI.
I am wait listed for USC and had interview with UCLA.
I'm starting to freak out knowing everyone have heard from UCLA..
(Congrats for those who've got accepted!!)
I was wondering if any producers program applicant have heard from them..anyone??

Hi Esther, welcome! I wouldn't worry much about UCLA just yet. Screenwriters usually hear back first, and I don't remember seeing that anybody's heard back from UCLA about producing yet. Here is a link to the google doc we've been using to keep track of those things:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-QPRZ-gc15WuHBmlxorJiTS1z-8vE-7uUttLDdxHtE0/edit?pli=1#gid=0

Those of you that haven't added yourselves or updated your info in a while, think about popping into the doc really quickly and doing so. Even if you just want to put "Anonymous", it'll be a very helpful tool for groups of applicants in the future.

Thank you Eoh and Nagham, those are the precise questions I was asked at my interview today. It helped a lot so thank you!
Fingers crossed for us!!
I am so glad to know it was helpful. All the best. I am being positive. I really hope we get accepted. I have my interview with Columbia on thursday for screenwriting/directing. :)

Hey guys,

For those of you who have been accepted to USC production, did they give you a date by which you have to give your enrollment deposit?

Thank you.
