AFI 2024 - All Applicants (2 Viewers)

just got my interview for directing!
Congrats that's awesome! Be sure to log your application in our database with all the dates and other info to help others. :)

I've been observing the AFI's selection process and thought to share some insights. It seems they start by forming potential teams, and then from late January to mid-February, they interview potential directors for these teams. I’ve also noticed that the directing category appears to be the most competitive one. There’s a hint that international applications might be reviewed first. If you haven't heard back by the end of February, the chances for an interview might be getting slim. And it's important to remember, no interview usually means no admission.

This is my second year applying. It's interesting to see how varied our experiences are – some get in on their first try, while others, like me, keep trying. I've even met folks who've applied to grad film schools four or five times before getting accepted. If it doesn't happen for me this year, I'm all set to try again next year. Every application cycle is a learning curve, helping me understand more about what AFI looks for.

It would be great if y'all could log your application here on the forum; It would give us all a better understanding and more accurate stats about the selection process.

Wishing us all the best of luck in this journey of dreams and reels! 😊

I went through last year's thread, and it appears that no one received interviews throughout February, except on January 18th. It seems directing sends out interviews all at once. Additionally, I've observed that international students receive many interviews on other forums.

in your opinion, why do you think you didn't get in the first time? did you make it to the interview process?

by reading other threads it seemed like they spread them out over few days. I'd be surprised if of all the people on this year's thread only 2 got an interview notification
