AFI Conservatory 2023 - Who is applying?

Hey all!
Hope you guys are surviving whilst we wait to hear back.
February went by so slowly for me, but hoping time flies now that its march!

I saw the AFI email last night that said they are still accepting Production Design applications on a rolling basis till May.
Im so curious as to why that is! I wonder if maybe they are not getting enough applications for that discipline, or maybe they're looking to increase that discipline's size.

Does anyone who applied to that discipline have any more info on that?

I didnt apply for PD, I applied for cinematography, but i'm just so curious!
I think im also just trying to distract myself whilst we all wait till the 15th lol

I believe they said they are increasing the discipline's size compared to other years to put it on par with the rest of disciplines in terms of fellow members. It seems it was a smaller cohort and that meant they were overdemanded as all projects recquired them haha. From the statistics (and high admissions percentage) I guess there is less people applying for that discipline... though it seems to me like it must be one of the best at AFI and one with the most secure path towards working afterwards!

But yeah, my heart almost flipped when I saw I had a mail from admissions haha, regardless of the headline.

Does anyone know the exact time the email will be sent out on the 15th?
Looks like last year they started coming in in the morning:

Hello,

I know it’s been a couple of weeks but when exactly did you receive the email from admissions regarding the PD application? Just curious because I don’t think I received one.

Thanks!

I received that production design deadline extension email on March 2nd, and the email title was “Everything Everywhere All At Once Interview, Women's History Month Movie Guide and more”

Interesting! And the email was from Admissions?

Anyone here also applied to AFI but didn't receive that email?

Probably not a big deal anyway. Just curious, I guess.

Thanks for the info! 👍 @arabfilm

I also applied to AFI but didn't receive that email! I applied for screenwriting and haven't had any messages from them since they confirmed they received my application. Maybe they only sent it to directing and cinematography applicants (since those fields are arguably more closely linked to PD)? Or maybe there was just a "Subscribe to our newsletter!" box that we forgot to tick, lmao.

All the best to everyone as we head into the final countdown! 🤞

I subscribed to their newsletter, so perhaps thats where it was from!
