NFTS 2024 - Directing Fiction Applications

Hi guys, apologies for asking here as this is the directing fiction thread. I applied for the Camera for television production course at NFTS and I was told by the registry that the application updates would be sent out this week. Is there anyone here who also applied for this course or knows anyone who applied for this course? Also as a contingency plan, can anyone suggest some other good film schools or Universities in the UK where I can study a film and television production course? I'm a prospective international student by the way.

I think I know someone on your course lol

That looks like the deadline is september 23rd so i think youre in for quite a wait! Best thing is to email them for clarity. They are very friendly and usually answer within 48 hours or so. Good luck!

Got an email saying my application is now processed and prepared for selection panel and that I should start researching funding my course fees and living expenses.

Is this a good thing or is that just standard procedure? My course is Camera for Television

Honestly I think it’s only worth looking for funding once you are at the interview round.

So… not taking anything away from those who’ve gone on to next round. Just kinda shocked. Was professional union actor for many years, and British American, have screenwriting MA from LFS, and certificates from NYU and UCLA, along with producing certificate from 2 Yr course at NYU, and other professional experience and I haven’t received an interview invite. I’ve even taken a short to the short film corner at Cannes and won several awards for it globally.
Went to two open days and got the sense that there is some ageism at NFTS but didn’t want to believe it. Does the hive think that all interviews are scheduled now? Should I be looking elsewhere? So disappointed. I thought experience is what they value…😟
I’m sorry you didn’t get an interview. I have no idea of their reasoning and I wouldn’t even try to guess. Just thought I would point out that the short film corner at Cannes is not the same as being selected for Cannes. How I understand it is that anyone can screen at the short film corner as it’s an open market. There’s lots of articles on this if you want to have a read. Again sorry you didn’t get an interview good luck on your journey xx

Like you said it’s hard to know. I was asked some pretty tough questions on the philosophy of my work. It was definitely a step up from last years interview.
They have a new head of the course, maybe she’s tougher. I didn’t get asked about philosophy but the questions were very open ended so not sure if I even answered them. I enjoyed the picture task they set.

I know what you mean about not being sure if you even answered their questions. I felt the same at points. Yeah it’s cool she’s the head of the course, definitely there will be some good guest lecturers over the next few years as I imagine she’s very well connected.
