NFTS 2024 - Directing Fiction Applications

It’s so competitive and stressful. A lot of the students there say you should go it alone haha 😆

Me, reading your posts right now. Just absolutely gutted for you all. Thankyou all SO much for sharing your journey on here which takes guts. I know youll all be hurting. Just allow yourself some time to feel whatever it is … then decide at what point you are going to say ok, moving on, get planning your next project. Reach out in DM if you wanna connect on social. In awe of you all for making the final interviews.

To the new people who got in, congrats!!! Have a wonderful weekend of celebrating!

Yeah I just got my rejection letter as well. Absolute stinger :/ but I guess hopefully if I can get an interview in the future
3rd times the charm!

Thank you to everyone on the page for being supportive and thank you to ChrisW for running such a good website that really helps out during the whole stress of this process.

Maybe see some of the same people next year (or the year after) who knows!
Noooooo ffs im soo sorry. Ugh mate! 3rd time… youll see! Go get em!

Hey, I haven’t checked this thread for ages but I was thrilled to receive an offer today (so looks like they do send all interview responses at the same time). Sorry to see no future course mates on here so far but good luck on your filmmaking journeys which I’m sure will be amazing regardless 🙌🏼
Congrats! That's awesome!

Remember to log your application on our site when you can! :)

Hey! I have been checking this thread too! I am happy to say I have been accepted too. so excited !
Woohoo! Awesome. 🎉

To those that didn't get in please don't take it personally and don't give up. NFTS is probably one of the hardest film schools to get into and is extremely competitive.

Whether you got in or not please don't forget to....

If you have questions on how to go this please let me know.

This is extremely important for NFTS as there's not as many applications in the database as other programs so the more data we have the more helpful it is to everyone. (Whether you were accepted or not)

@Ritoban @patchoooli @WannabeFilmDirector I just want to say congratulations on being accepted. I checked the website and it seems this course is for Jan 2024, My course also begins in January 2024 but that's the camera for television production course, I'm only posting here because there isn't a thread dedicated to the camera for television course here on filmschool.org.

Anyway I noticed that the NFTS has began giving admission letters to prospective students of the directing fiction course as well as students of the screenwriting course, meanwhile my course also begins in Jan 2024 and my application status is still stuck in the "Selection Panel" phase!

I haven't even been called up or notified of an interview date. Is this normal? do I wait a while longer or is this basically a bad sign? It all just seems strange to me and I wasn't a late entry, I applied months back, about 2 or 3 months back so I'm not really sure what the hold up is or if my application has been lost somewhere under the pile of other applications.

Thank you for adding your application!

Admitted (After Interview)  MA DIRECTING FICTION NFTS

The Application process for NFTS went pretty smooth. I feel like the lesser word count for the questions make it a much more easier application and I could tell they put a lot of focus on the particular film you are asked to send.

Keep them coming even if you weren't accepted. I'd say it might be more helpful for future applicants to have the ones that weren't accepted logged as well as the ones that were.

Hi! I didnt get in but it was nice pretending while i read your post hahaha 🤣 hey look, id just drop them an email saying its been a few months and just wanted to make sure they got your application etc They usually respond within 48 hours and are v nice!!! :-)
Everything crossed for you, im sure youll be hearing good news soon!

Has anyone had feedback from their interview yet?
I literally just got an email saying that my request has been forwarded on but Tricia is out of office until mid September so it might take a while.

I don’t think we are getting feedback this year unfortunately. Very deflated by the whole application process this year. But on to the next project! Just trying to pull myself out of the hole ahaha

Also does that mean Brian has stepped down?

I don’t think Brian has stepped down I just think Tricia is the head of the course. I haven’t even received an email to say my request has been forwarded.

I know what you mean it is deflating but you don’t need the NFTS to make it in the industry! I’m in a bit of a hole as well because I don’t have a producer at the minute which is my biggest barrier. We will get there!

Tell me about it same boat here - there’s not enough producers going around ahaha

Hey everyone. Sorry for the gap in my chatting. I did the Summer Three week Directing intensive at London Film School directly following my Screenwriting MA there and it was AWESOME! I highly recommend to anyone. Highly collaborative and ALL industry department folks were from NFTS! Ha. As you know I didn't get into the Directing Fiction after my application and was not asked to interview either. I have been in touch and plan to do the six month certificate course per patchouli's recommendation from your participation in it this past year! Next intake is Jan/Feb 2024. Currently I'm finishing my final course for my 2 year Producing for Film and TV certificate at NYU and super stoked to finally be wrapping it up.
I just got an email from NFTS saying:
"We are very sorry you were unsuccessful for our Directing Fiction MA. Having reviewed your application, we thought we might reach out to you with a suggestion for a slightly different course which might still appeal to you and your career goals.
Our Directing and Producing Television Entertainment MA is a similar course, with an outstanding reputation within the industry and excellent career prospects. We run our course like a production company – we are either in pre-production, shooting or in post-production – where you will be pitching, producing and directing your own TV show. In recent years, our students have sold entertainment formats to Warner Bros. and ITV, and graduation projects have won prestigious awards from the New York Television Festival and the Royal Television Society."
Anyone know anything about this program? is this their standard "let's try to sell/fill our other programs" email? Anyone else receive this? Glad everyone's interviews were a success whether you were offered places or not. I like reading the positive feedback of your experiences.
cheerio!

I received this and it kind of annoyed me because TV entertainment is so far away from my showreel and what I’m interested with so they shouldn’t be saying we looked at your application and thought this was a good fit! I would prefer them to email me with some feedback of the interview. I think that’s what would be more useful to me going forward.

Hey there. Thanks for responding to my query. Yeah I too thought it an odd way of steering me toward a different program in offer at the school. My submitted work and film references clearly also couldn’t be further from TV especially as this program is described on the website. Perhaps they don’t have enough applicants? Although I find that hard to believe since they only accept 5% across the board…

Yeah I still haven’t received any feedback on interviews either. But I know their was a mass email sent around to other people who requested feedback saying that they couldn’t provide it for everyone? (Which I also didn’t receive)
