2015 Interviews - Acceptances - Rejections (2 Viewers)

Hey all,

I was also denied by NYU today. Domestic applicant for Directing. Received an email that a decision had been made on my application. I did not interview.

I have interviewed with Columbia (still waiting to hear) and I haven't heard anything at all from AFI or UCLA - so it is looking more and more like USC for me.

Good luck everyone.

Yep. Mine says "Pending Decision". I know a few people have reported "Decision Reached".

Hey haven't posted here yet, but I wanted to mention that my Chapman page says "Decision Reached" but I haven't received an email or letter yet with said decision. The status changed about half a week ago so I'm waiting to see how they inform me.

Still radio silence from Chapman here as well. A friend of mine (editing) has been accepted. He also got USC and AFI. Hell, at the AFI interview he told them he was in a time crunch and they said he was in right there. Baller.

I've been racking my brain between USC and UCLA for a while now. After many visits to both schools and lots of soul searching I'm gonna go against everyone's advice and do UCLA.

USC is awesome but I don't want or need a broad general film program, I've already got an undergrad for that. UCLA is just more focused, even if they don't have all the cool toys and sexy alumni.

Of course, I'm always grateful for any advice/insight/opinions.

Congrats to all!

@Vittoria Yeahh that was me…we met just after your interview! Crazy how three of the six accepted into the program are on this blog (including @psheets ). I'm definitely leaning towards UCLA over NYU. From my understanding, all of the top 5 programs are fairly similar. The biggest factor is the network, and the more professionals that I speak to for advice on choosing between the 2 schools, the more I keep hearing to stay in LA because of the network and the opportunities. I've been living here in LA since September and have already started building a network, so I think I'm going to stay here to continue building off of that! I also like how small the UCLA class is compared to the other schools. And the kodak in-residence program at UCLA with Oscar-winning DPs is badass!
I'm also leaning toward UCLA. I like the direct focus on cinematography. I look forward to working with you. You do great work!

What are your thoughts about USC and UCLA?
Firstly I like Westwood faaaaar better than South Central. I love the UCLA campus. They seem far more personal in the way they've treated me. They also have a specialized cinematography program and smaller class sizes (I think).

USC is amazing, they have great facilities and gear, far better than UCLA. But I just have a gut feeling about UCLA, they seem to have more soul. Plus USC students never stop talking about "SC" lol

I've done a lot of thinking and I feel like I'm leaning toward UCLA. It's not a bad problem having to choose between two of the best film schools in the world but it sure is stressful!

Wait - he told the people that were interviewing him that he didn't have much time? That takes some balls. Either that or he didn't care if they got in.

Oh he cares. It's all balls, I've known this guy for nine years. We were Navy broadcast journalists together.

Here's his reel: Andre Rhoden Demo Reel Short 2015:

Nice. There seems to be a good amount of quality work in that reel. He's been busy. :)

He was my first video instructor in the Navy. Dude's like a brother to me. Finished his undergrad in 2.5 years. If he goes to AFI that will be Nada to MFA in less than five. Pretty fancy footwork.

I was also rejected from NYU last night, Cinematography focus. I was expecting as much as I did not have an interview. I'm an international student, and received email that my decision status was available to view online.

FSU - Accepted
NYU - Rejected
USC - Rejected
SCAD - ???
LMU - ???
I really want to get into LMU, but they seem to be giving us all a serious scare. I contacted them a few weeks ago via email and this what they told me: "We have not yet heard of an admission decision. If you wish, you are more than welcome to inquire directly with the SFTV Department.Typically however, the department makes admission decisions in batches throughout the spring months of March/April/May. The Graduate Admissions Office has not yet received any admission decisions for this fall 2015 cohort." Unfortunately, we will probably be waiting all spring for our admission decisions.

Anyone else think LMU are playing a dangerous game here when they're leaving their decisions so late? Especially because a lot of schools have already sent out their interviews and decisions. And we have deadlines to accept/deny our acceptances as well ... FSU have given me a deadline of April 1st, so if we don't hear from LMU before then I will obviously accept FSU, as I'm not going to not accept and then take the chance of maybe not getting in to LMU. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, and then they're going to end up with a bunch of spaces to fill. It's nice that they have a January application deadline, so we can spread our applications out, but the late decisions are not so good. They're probably better off having a mid-December deadline, and earlier decisions? Anyway, that's my thoughts on LMU :P

Hello everyone, I just joined this site as well.

I was accepted into FSU's MFA program and I've been looking for people in the same class to connect with. I had to immediately join this forum after seeing a fellow interview groupee make it. Congrats Rika! I say we must have pitched a good story together. :) And congrats Layne as well.

Is there a thread on who is going into the FSU program this year? I would like to get together and possibly rent a house to cover living expenses.

Hi! Also accepted to FSU here :) Congratulations on getting in!

Looking at last year's thread, decisions started to go out for LMU in late March (March 24th).

*Looks at calendar* AHHHHHH

I'm very strongly leaning towards FSU for myself, so maybe we'll see each other! I was told by just about everyone who is attending there though that you should definitely NOT live with your classmates though. You're already with them at least 12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week. It's not conducive to a good working relationship.

Ahah, Yes, its true. I have been living in New York for a while now, so my network is here, but I am excited to explore LA.
Will share here my facebook page.

We might hear soon then!

During my interview I asked about campus life/community etc, and they answered that we're going to get REALLY close to our classmates as they are pretty much the only people you'll hang out with. So I agree that living with classmates at FSU might be problematic. From my experience there's always one person in each house that gets on everyone's nerves, so if you have to live and spend ALL day with these people it gets tedious and awkward.
Yeah I don't agree with everyone. There's tons of advantages to renting a house with fellow peers, especially if you get along. I'm kinda older and past the partying all night phase. I would much rather be a focused student saving cash over the next two years if I want to get a MFA without debt. It would be nice to carpool to class, pay significantly lower cost per sq. ft., etc. etc. If anyone else going to FSU wants to talk about it find me on the BookFace.
Of course, I totally see what you're saying, but you can also live with other FSU students who are not on the same course, that way you can meet some other people as well and not feel like you're stuck with film people :) Sometimes it's nice to hang out with people who don't know what you do haha, but that's me. You might feel different.

Been lurking on these forums for quite some time now...since 2014 and I have to say people have been such a great help to me.

Like three others on this forum, I have been accepted into UCLA cinematography program. Didn't apply to any others programs so I'm 95% I will be attending this fall. Any UCLA directing/cinematography/screenwriting/producing students, add me on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/nathan.nguyenle

Hope to meet everyone this fall!
