2015 Interviews - Acceptances - Rejections

Those of yall choosing to attend NYU/Columbia over AFI/UCLA/USC - I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts about NY vs. LA. I'm still a bit unsure about choosing NYU over UCLA, mainly because of the benefits of working in LA and building a network here instead of in NYC. Any insight from others would really help!

afi, chapman, ucla, lmu .....completely radio silence

meanwhile other people have been receiving offers from them !!

sweating sweating sweating !!!

btw, I received offer from ACCD a few days ago, a lot of people do.

So about the email that @Sunny (I hope you received good news!) and I received from LMU about a Skype conversation to tell us our decision, I received another email from Anna Proulx yesterday, she said her Skype was down, but just wanted to tell us decisions face-to-face. I guess to be more personal? And I guess Domestic get phone calls, and Internationals Skype from what I've seen.

Anyway, she said I was accepted! :D She also said more information and an official offer should come through soon, she just wanted to let me know asap. So if you're waiting for LMU, you should hopefully hear soon! When I log on to my.lmu.edu, I get a message pop-up that says I've been provisionally accepted.

I'm still waiting for SCAD, I probably need to email them again today! But now comes the decision of choosing LMU vs. FSU, Los Angeles vs Tallahassee. If anyone has any thoughts or advice, I'm happy to listen :)

Unless you have a specific reason to live in Tallahassee, other than FSU, I would recommend LMU. I grew up there, nothing but rednecks. It's small and full of small-mined people. Also punishingly hot and humid most of the year. However, FSU has won more Student Oscars than any other film school.

Okay, thanks for your input! I'll keep that in mind :) Any reason why you did not apply to LMU?
Got accepted to LMU production program for this fall!
Congratulations! :D

Not sure. Haven't really heard of it. Just hit up the big ones: AFI, Chapman, UCLA, USC. Was gonna go Art Center but I got lazy plus it seems like a fancy Ai.

Everyone says I'm crazy to turn down USC but UCLA feels right.

That's great! Congratulations!

I got in too! I received an email last night regarding the same. I guess they will be sending an official letter soon. I understand that the admission committee was very impressed with my creative sample and portfolio. They have offered me a scholarship for 7500$ on my tuition fees for the first year. I am still waiting to hear from AFI. It's my top priority and I really hope I get in. I got rejected by USC and NYU. I also got accepted by FSU. I prefer staying in LA because it would be easier to make connections in Hollywood and as an International student, I feel it's important for me to build contacts before I graduate as getting a job would hopefully be easier with the connections I build.

Just a follow up question and I am asking this out of curiosity. If you had to choose between AFI, UCLA and USC. Which one would you choose? I think AFI would be better because it's so discipline specific. And it follows the conservatory module which in my opinion will give me more hands on production experience unlike USC where the program is very generic atleast for the first two years.

Everyone will tell you USC is the best and AFI is better but I would rather go to UCLA. Not exactly sure what I base that decision on. I guess there's just a spot for everyone. I dunno, maybe it's the underdog in me.

Just for posterity, Columbia started to call people for acceptances today.

Fantastic! Congratulations! :D I also applied for Scholarship, but whether or not I got it was not stated in my email? But aside from AFI and SCAD we applied to the same schools, and had the same results haha :) So you've decided on LMU then, unless you get accepted by AFI? Good luck :)

I know it sounds crazy being a film student and all, but I really don't want to live anywhere near LA.

Tallahassee has a lot slower vibe and I'm down with that. Plus, its not in south-south Florida. It won't take you day of driving just to leave the state.

Any place is what you make of it
Fair enough! I actually visited LA for the first time last April, I was only there for 2 days but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be, I had just been to Hawaii for two weeks, so that probably skewed my perception a little haha! I need to do some more research on LMU and FSU to see which one would suit me better. I'm leaning towards FSU at the moment, though, but might change my mind. I don't know
