AFI 2024 - All Applicants

Out of interest - and this is applicable for those who go into some or all of our schools, and those of us who didn’t - were most applications made on the reliance of scholarships or with the ability to self-fund?

For me I would really really really love scholarships. I can’t actually afford it without but my spouse already has so much student debt that basically we’ve both agreed to take that burden on if necessary.

Hi I got waitlisted from directing and I'm feeling pretty confused on how to feel... Does anyone know the stats about waitlists and the chances of getting in? Do you get a notification if you don't get in from the waitlist and how long should I wait to hear back?
I got waitlisted for NYU and they said that the waitlists usually don't start to move there until mid-April, which if you think about it, probably makes sense for most schools. Admitted students have to commit to wherever they're going by April 15, and a lot of them are probably going to take all or most of that time to decide, so it makes sense that the waitlist wouldn't see much movement until after that point.

My strategy as someone who was also waitlisted somewhere is this: Regardless of whether you've been admitted anywhere else or not, accept your position on the waitlist as soon as possible. If you've been admitted to a program other than AFI, and can see yourself going to that program instead, I would commit to that program by April 15. There's no guarantee that the AFI waitlist will move and you don't want to give up a spot at a school where you're their first choice.

And if you haven't been admitted to other programs, the waitlist is for you. Odds are there are people on the waitlist that have already been accepted to other programs as a first-choice, and will commit to those programs before April 15, but if you have no commitments anywhere else there's nothing you need to worry about besides waiting for the waitlist to move. It's stressful, and it means that anywhere between now and when school starts you could get a notification that you got in, so my advice would be to prepare your savings as you would if you were going, so you're not blindsided if an offer does come.
