2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (5 Viewers)

Anybody know when LMU sends out decisions? I'm asking those who may have applied in the past. I tried contacting them, but I didn't get a reply.

I wonder if I can update the schools I applied to that I'm doing this first in the summer? haha That's too bad you have conflicting dates. Would have been fun to do it with you! Anyone else interested in TV writing want to join? @Amanda it's right up your alley too!
Congrats on the Columbia summer program! It does look really neat; however, I'm currently under contract with a production company and won't wrap until after the program's start date. Enjoy, and let me know how it goes!

the suspense is killing me with these schools!

Me too! I keep refreshing my email inbox so much it's probably unhealthy.

they don't answer emails well. you have to contact them by phone. I have to send 4 emails every time and it takes two weeks for me to get answer from them. But the phone is way more fast.
p.s : I did not hear from LMU !

Hi Anita! Congrats on your interview, I'm sure you did great. I'm flying from Barcelona for my interview with them on March 8th, and I was wondering: could you tell us some more details about the interview? Who was it with? Which kind of questions did they ask? I don't know... anything you think might be helpful...

THANKS SO MUCH! Best of luck to you and everyone!

are you guys being interviewed for Filmmaking MFA or is the interview for other programs ?

A little late to the party on this, but I have a B.A. in Literature. Another one outside the fold of film.

So, I am late to the party. However, It's refreshing to find this thread. I have a BA in Liberal Studies/English emphasis and an MA in African and African Diaspora Studies (May 2016).

2016 MFA Screenwriting
Columbia - Interview Invite
NYU(DW) - Applied
Boston University - Applied
LIU (Writing & Producing for TV)- Accepted

I was in Los Angeles last week for my UCLA interview, and decided to visit LMU and USC while I was there.

LMU's campus is gorgeous, and they have a lot of new media putting up studios literally right down the hill--YouTube, Snapchat, etc. at Silicon Beach. A top member of the faculty and admissions director were also super generous with their time and took me on a tour of the campus and answered a lot of my questions. If you can visit, I highly recommend it. I believe they said they'd meet to discuss Writing for the Screen applicants this coming Friday, 2/26.

USC's School of Cinematic Arts is like walking through the front gate of Disneyland. Everything is so polished and refined and planned. It looks exactly like the kind of place you'd want to go if you love that Hollywood feel around you. The admissions tour guide was also really friendly and informative. There were a ton of people on the tour, but almost all of them were undergrad prospectives.

UCLA's campus is also really pretty (see a pattern?), though it was so spread out it was difficult to feel like the campus was cohesive. I like a cohesive-feeling campus, the same way I like a cohesive-feeling plot. That said, it's writing program is outstanding.

I heard from NYU this morning for an interview--apparently they had a wrong email for me until today. That means 100% of NYU DW applicants on the spreadsheet got an interview request. Congrats, all!

Woah, did you mean LMU?? You'd be the first thats heard anything from them this year! Congrats on your acceptance!

I've been obsessively checking myLMU to see if anything has changed, and I noticed two odd changes today (which probably mean absolutely nothing, or just that they've just started looking at my file), but I'd love to know if anyone has encountered the same ...

#1 -- When I go to to the System Logins, then the Graduate Application Profile, it pulls up my application (obviously), but in the "My Profile" section, the Anticipated Entry Term, Academic Level of Interest, and Program of Interest all used to be marked with a red asterisk, but now they're not. Info is all still there, but asterisks are gone.

#2 -- From there, when I click on the "Submit Supplemental Items" and go to that page, my Personal Statement and Creative Work/Writing Sample used be red and offer the option to delete them (far passed the submission deadline). No longer. They are now grey and unable to be deleted (not that I was looking to do so, just noticing the change).

Like I said, probably means nothing, but I'm in the crazy mode like everyone else in looking for any indication of what's happening with my application, and would love to know if any other LMU peeps have encountered these two changes as well.

AFI people...this is taking FOREVER! Waiting on an nonexistent interview for the screenwriting program. I'm thinking our school of choice will be the last to the dance. How's everyone holding up? I'm not making rational choices. I decided rather than wait on my phone to ring that I'd turn it off and only check it once a day. I told all of my friends not to call me for the next two weeks. Yesterday I turned my phone on and noticed a voice mail. I had convinced myself that this was AFI. I called my voice mail and it was someone from work asking me to switch shifts. What? Such a horrible roller coaster. Any word on the screenwriting front? franklymydear got the call and as far as I can see that's the only screenwriting interview. Does anyone know of anyone off the board that got a call? Nothing is like it was last year. Any inside scoop would be appreciated. I bet it all on AFI and now I'm just watching the ball spin around the wheel hoping it'll land on my number.

I'm another LMU peep and just logged in to check on what you mentioned.

Re: #1 - that is true for me as well (there are no asterisks anymore). I remember seeing the asterisks, but I'm not sure if they were still there or not in late January, when I last logged in.

Re: #2 - My submitted personal statement and writing sample became gray and unable to be deleted within several days after the deadline for me. I remember this because I checked a few days after the deadline to make sure a transcript got received and processed.

@Solomon_E Thanks for checking! Both those things definitely didn't change for me until today (I've been looking at them daily, if not multiple times a day). Hmmm ... I wonder why the time difference between your and my uploads becoming un-deletable ... Oh, well ...

I feel your pain. By looking at last year's notification times it was very inconsistent. Days to weeks between them. I applied to Directing MFA. I can see they notified 7 people so I don't know if that means they're done or not. But hopefully it's just a case of they're doing it in batches. Remember no news is good news.

Have my Skype Interview with Florida State in a couple of hours! I'm stoked and equally perplexed at the thought of interviewing for such a highly selective program! Wish me luck, fellow FilmSchoolers! :)

Good luck @tutenkhamen! Will you be doing all your interviews on Skype?

Thanks, @Miguel23! Yes, it won't be logistically possible for me to fly down to the US from India on such a short notice! Therefore, Skype shall be my savior. :D

I've already bumped up my internet plan so everything goes without any technical hiccups! I suggest all international applicants upgrade their internet for Skype interviews. It can be gruesome to lose momentum during the interview owing to call drops, and I'm sure we don't want that. ;)

Good luck @tutenkhamen ! Let us know how it went and what you were asked! Have not applied to FSU but would think that most of the interviews have similar elements :)
