AFI Conservatory 2023 - Who is applying? (1 Viewer)

I am waiting on the interview email for the directing track and feel like if I don't hear anything this week, I probably didn't get it this year. Best of luck to everyone.
Same! I'm taking this as an opportunity to grow and hopefully improve for next year. Is anyone else looking into other schools?

I believe AFI hands a few full scholarships. But very few(for the whole 150 students coming in each year). The info is in their web I believe, though I remember from the info session.

Outsourced... it depends on each one's situation I guess. Can't help with that. Don't want to discourage but I guess many deadlines for scholarships may have passed? No idea. Fullbright is an extended and popular scholarship for internationals, but tough and won't cover the whole tuition. Personally, I'd attend with a private scholarship for Spaniards and Portuguese that was granted to me in May 2022... so a long time in the making. Though I do recommend looking for that ASAP.

Does anyone know if you find out if you've received a scholarship when you get your acceptance? Or does it come out later?
See this application....I think it's at the same time.

Hey everyone. So I am extremely anxious and nervous. I know we have time until we hear about acceptance or rejection but I would be really depressed if I get rejected after the interview. My interview went great but Its difficult to tell because everyone's interview went great. I just wanna know. How many people get accepted from those who are interviewed?

I believe it's around 24 persons per discipline. But I do not know how many are called for interview (though I've been told it's not many more). What discipline did you apply for? (Directing here)

I'm anxious too! But we have to hold on.

Screenwriting! First time applying. 😭
Hold on! 🎉🎉 If we have been called for interview it means they are already interested in us and our profile. Our chances are more in than out 😉

I'm applying too for the first time, but only after a second attempt for the scholarship that will allow me to attend AND after being rejected by NFTS without even an interview. I also share you anxiety and nerves but, honestly, I'm very happy I did not get this far in my first try because I would have been much less prepared mentally and emotionally. What I mean to say is "hold strong" cause we are nearly in. And if we are finally not (this time) it will probably be for better on the long run. We should be proud to be this far!

Cheers, patience (I need it too!) and hugs,
Galder

Honestly, I know the thought of rejection feels horrible but even getting an interview is a massive achievement so definitely hold on to that! When I did this last time, they told me that they usually interview around 80-100 people for 28 places but that could have changed as that was back during covid so there was a massive increase in applications. Hope that helps!

Our accepted after interview percentages are in the extra data for Supporting Member sections on our Admissions Statistics pages. (It's usually higher than the regular acceptance rate by a little) There's lots of other neat data in those sections too like accepted applicant film experience, age, undergrad degree, etc...

You can find statistics for the other programs below:

Remember to log your application if you haven't already so we can improve our data.

To find our stats for any program use the Admissions Statistics tab on the film school's page in our review system or there should be a link to them at the top of any application logged in our database.

Looking at the AFI Directing stats, I could see two applicants were admitted without an interview. Is this common at AFI? or is the interview a requirement in the admission process usually?
