Hi all,
Don’t know if any of this will be helpful. I’m a current first year at NYU.
Each cohort is comprised of 36 people. I can’t speak on the dates of interviews, if it helps, last year I received my notification on February 8.
If you get to the interview stage, it’s a big deal. Last year there were over 2,000 applicants for 36 spots.
Basically now they’re just trying to see if you would be a good fit for the program, personality wise, adaptability, etc. At this point, your work has already spoken for you, so it’s not just about your work.
Basically, the semi finalists are like 3 possibly combinations of cohorts. They interview everyone and decide who would be the best fit for the cohort overall, how everyone will mesh. My cohort is a mix of people who have industry experience and those who have never picked up a camera.
In your interview, it will be the chair, and two other faculty members. From what I’ve heard, one of the faculty members really wants you there, the other is skeptical, you won’t know who it is. But at least you know there’s someone there rooting for you.
Hope this helps and good luck, home to see you in the halls next semester.
