I interviewed with him as well, and he's very nice. I felt the same way you did; it was very conversational, and it seemed like they wanted to learn more about us while also sharing info about themselves.

He mentioned that if you get an interview, it means your portfolio has been qualified. However, the final decision will depend on the diversity of the small group they're assembling, as they need to consider the different backgrounds of the applicants.

I was a little bit nervous as well.

I don't think that's what they meant, I guess they have their own criteria. It doesn't mean that if you weren't interviewed, your content isn't strong enough. It's hard to say what they're looking for. I think they just said that to tell us that they want to make sure the final group is as diverse as possible. It's not that some people's work is stronger than others.

Anyway, I hope that everyone who did get an interview had an amazing one and hopefully you'll all hear positive things from the program!
 
What should we expect in the interview? I've never had one before for school and am nervous. Tips / advice would be greatly appreciated

To anyone who's not yet had their interview, I was asked 5 questions so hope this is helpful:

1. Why this MFA at Tisch?
2. Could you tell me more about your previous university education?
3. How did you develop a passion for dramatic writing?
4. What are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer?
5. Do you have any questions for me?

I was told decisions will be made by the beginning of April.

HIGHLY recommend checking your junk folder for interview requests!! I made peace with being rejected by NYU but just now decided to do a thorough check through all of my inboxes to make sure I hadn’t missed anything and sure enough, I missed an interview request on Tuesday because it had been directed to junk 🫠 Responded and hoping I’ll be able to interview tomorrow. Just a heads up!

I am not sure if financial aid packets are sent along with acceptance letters (I remember having to wait in undergrad), but I am pretty sure that you would be alerted to any internal funding like scholarships or grants in the acceptance letter. I have been googling a lot about the financial aid release dates for NYU and from what I have found online, which isn't much, it seems that they release them in April/May.
